Warhawks Pick Up Win to Open Sun Belt Play

ULM Softball remains undefeated at home after a six-run inning in the second.

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (20-10, 1-0 Sun Belt) claimed the 7-3 win over the Georgia State Panthers (8-19, 0-1 Sun Belt) on Friday evening (March 14) at the ULM Softball Complex, picking up the first conference win of the season. The team scored six runs in the second for the early lead, with Morgan Brown hitting a two-run homer as the only extra base hit of the day.

The Panthers logged a hit in the first, but were unable to capitalize while the Warhawks could not pick up a hit early. Two more hits rolled in for Georgia State and while they remained scoreless, ULM found its groove. Three consecutive walks opened the bottom of the second, a single from Carys Platt scored two runs. Brooklin Lippert logged a single immediately after, with two runs scored off a throwing error. Morgan Brown hit a two-run bomb to left field to round out the six-run inning for ULM.

A walk, a wild pitch and a single teed up a sacrifice fly from Jordan Rayner, scoring the Panthers' first run of the contest, closing the gap to five in the middle of the third. An error by Georgia State and an Elle Carter single placed Cheyenne Jenkins in scoring position, in which she successfully stole home for the seventh run of the game, making it 7-1.

A quick fourth inning for both teams maintained the six-run deficit for the Panthers, but they continued to battle. An RBI single from Lauren Brister scored the second run for Georgia State, Rayner following close behind to make it a 7-3 score. After holding ULM without a score, the Panthers showed they were not finished just yet. The fifth inning held the four-run gap for both teams, sending the game to the seventh inning where Dakota Lake struck out two batters to close out the Panthers, 7-3.

Morgan Brown tallied two RBIs from her home run, her seventh of the season. Platt also posted two RBIs and was the lone Warhawks with a multi-hit game, her seventh multi-hit game of 2025. Jenkins and Carter each stole a base in the contest as well. Maddie Nichols is credited with the win, improving to 6-3 on the season in her four innings in the circle. Nichols allowed four hits, three runs, two walks and struck out two batters in the game.

ULM Softball will be back in action at the ULM Softball Complex tomorrow to continue the Sun Belt opening series. The Warhawks will take on the Georgia State Panthers in round two of the series on Saturday (March 15) at 4 p.m.
