FOLEY, Ala. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (7-11, 1-2 Sun Belt) fell in conference matches to UNCW (13-4) and Coastal Carolina (10-10) on the first day of competition at the Foley Beach Volleyball Complex in Foley, Ala.

Match One: UNCW 5, ULM 0
Former Warhawk Tamsie Black and Sophia Puhala captured a win for the Seahawks in pair no. 5 in a 2-0 win over Gracie Behneke and Zsa Zsa Ferguson, 21-16, 21-18. The fourth flight went into three sets after Avery Hunter and Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman won the opening set 21-16, but the Hannah Forbes and Maddy Folks rallied to win the final two sets, 21-18, 16-14 for a second win. Traci Schrock and Annika Thompson won 21-11, 21-13 over Katie Felts and Maggie Cox in flight three. Reigning SBC Pair of the Week Grace Sistrunk and Lyvia Trimp claimed a 21-16, 21-11 victory in pair no. 2 over Abby Ryno and Claire Williamson. The Seahawks completed the sweep with a 21-9, 21-17 win in pair one for Gabby LaPata and Sarah Thompson versus Kaitlyn Beck and Madeline Marquez.

Match Two: CCU 4, ULM 1
The Chanticleers won each of the first four matches by 2-0 scores starting with a win in flight five for Karis Gordon and Celia Ryan after a 21-12, 21-16 win over Behneke and Ferguson. Raychel Ehlers and Ava Norvello took both sets, 21-15, 23-21 versus Hunter and Fredette-Huffman in pair no. 4. Maya McNabney and Kristyna Koblizkova earned a 21-17, 21-13 win in flight three versus Felts and Cox. In pair no. 2, the Chants' pair of Madeline Sigmon and Anna Rita captured a 21-12, 21-25 victory in the duel versus Ryno and Williamson. After falling behind in the first set 21-14, Beck and Marquez battled back to hand CCU's no. 1 pairing of Emma Kunaus and Frida Meincke Lyo a defeat with 21-17, 15-13 wins in the final two sets.

The Warhawks will face SBC foes Mercer and Southern Miss tomorrow (March 29) to wrap up the SBC Mid-Year Tournament. The match versus the Bears begins at 11 a.m. while ULM's rematch versus Southern Miss is slated to start at 2 p.m. from Foley.
