FOLEY, Ala. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (8-12, 2-3 Sun Belt) completed action at the Sun Belt Mid-Year Tournament on Saturday (March 29) with a victory over Southern Miss (9-15) and a 3-2 battle versus Mercer that was won by the Bears at the Foley Beach Volleyball Complex.
Match One: Mercer 3, ULM 2
Gracie Behneke and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson won a thrilling three-set match in pair five versus Grace Rathburn and Kristi Talocka in 21-12, 19-21, 15-11 fashion. Mercer's fourth pair of Nicole O'Mara and Kathryn Corbett picked up a 2-0 win over
Avery Hunter and
Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman (21-10, 21-10) to even the match score. The Bears locked down their second win of the match with a 21-18, 23-21 victory for Sydney Benson and Kate Hardie over
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox in pair three. Jordan Paddock and Liv Diaz clinched the win for the Bears with a 21-17, 21-19 win versus
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson. In pair one,
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez swept Lexi Polychrones and Hollis Engel 21-17, 21-17.
Match Two: ULM 4, USM 1
The Golden Eagles took the first point of the match with a 21-15, 21-19 win from Jessica Fairly and Giovanna Bahia over Behneke and Ferguson. Cox and Felts edged USM's Dylan Russel and Y-Nhu Do in three sets, 21-19, 20-22, 15-9 and tied the score 1-1 with a win in pair four Hunter and Fredette-Huffman cruised to a 21-12, 21-15 win in pair three versus Delgado Sanchez and Wilo Meinheit to put ULM ahead 2-1. Ryno and Williamson prevalied in three sets to secure the win for the Warhawks in pair two with a 20-22, 21-17, 18-16 win over USM's Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda. Beck and Marquez won their third match of the weekend and won in three versus Madison Cassidy and Zuzanna Michalska, 21-17, 20-22, 15-12 to complete the 4-1 win.
