Warhawks Clinch Series Over Troy in Walk-Off Thriller

An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh with two outs secured the win and the series for ULM.

MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (25-13, 6-2 Sun Belt) clinched their second Sun Belt series against Troy (21-15, 3-5 Sun Belt), extending its win streak at home to 17. Both teams got out to a hot start, tying it up with five runs apiece in the seventh. It was Elle Carter's RBI single that gave the Warhawks the walk-off win, 6-5.

Troy started off with immediate hot bats in the first inning, loading the bases and scoring the first run off a single. A fielder's choice and another single made it a three-run lead for the Trojans. After holding ULM scoreless in the first and the second, pitcher Bristin Bordeau and the Warhawk defense held the Trojans without a score for the second, third and fourth innings.

In the bottom of the third, two singles put the Brown sisters on base in the corners. Hollie Thomas went on to double to center field, picking up two RBIs and chipping away at the lead. With only a one-run deficit, ULM went on to find the lead in the fourth. Carys Platt hit an RBI single for the tie, with a Meagan Brown triple scoring two more for the 5-3 lead.

The Trojans were not finished just yet, as a two-run homer tied things up in the top of the fifth. It became a shootout as both teams picked up hits but could not find the winning run. In the bottom of the seventh, it remained a tie game and ULM had two outs. The bases loaded and Carter singled up the middle for the walk-off win.

Thomas and Meagan Brown led the team with two RBIs apiece, as Brown, Brooklin Lippert and Carter each had a multi-hit game with two. The ULM defense was hot to keep the Trojans at bay, with 21 putouts, Reece Briggs leading the squad with seven. Dakota Lake was credited with the win, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one hit, no runs and two walks. Bristin Bordeau saw the majority of action, allowing two runs and two walks across four innings, striking out one batter.

The Warhawks will be back in action on Sunday (March 30) to close out the series against Troy, looking for the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
