MONROE, La. -- The ULM beach volleyball team (5-7) wrapped up the ULM Bayou Bash on Saturday (March 8) at the ULM Beach Volleyball Courts. The Warhawks came up just short in a 3-2 decision to Stephen F. Austin and fell to No. 11 LSU 3-0 in a rain-shortened match.
Match One: SFA 3, ULM 2
The 'Jacks claimed the first win of the day in pair four from a 21-8, 21-17 win for Kylie Golden and Ashley Boswell versus
Maggie Cox and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson. Playing in her first collegiate match,
Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman teamed up with
Bailey Hope of the Warhawks for a win in pair five over Victoria Simmang and Hailey Prodan 21-18, 19-21, 15-7 and evened the score 1-1. Olivia Zeigler and Lizzie Denyer of SFA defeated
Katie Felts and
Avery Hunter in two sets 21-16, 21-16 in pair three.
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez battled to a win in pair one over Katherine Hansen and Savannah Johnson 21-15, 20-22, 15-12 to level the match score, 2-2.
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson split the first two sets versus Kelly Johnson and Elaina Amador that set a winner-take-all third set for the match. The Jacks pulled away in the third set, 15-8, and captured a 3-2 match win.
Match Two: No. 11 LSU 3, ULM 0
The Tigers picked up a pair of two-set victories in pairs four and five. Skylar Martin and Elle Evers won 21-14, 21-10 versus Cox and Felts in pair four while Emily Meyer and Kate Baker won 23-21, 21-18 in pair five. After a weather delay that lasted 57 minutes, the match was ruled to be played to decision. Gabi Bailey and Parker Bracken clinched the match win for the Tigers in pair one with a 21-13, 21-19 victory over Beck and Marquez. Two matches were unfinished with LSU leading both in the second set. Aubrey O'Gorman and Julia Sprecher were ahead 21-18, 16-12 in pair two versus Ryno and Williamson while the duo of Tatum Finlason and Camryn Chatellier was on top 21-12, 18-11 in pair three versus Hunter and Ferguson.
