ATLANTA -- The ULM beach volleyball team (12-14) had its longest winning streak of the season snapped at the Georgia State Diggin Duals after losses to No. 14 Stetson and EKU on Friday (April 11) in Atlanta.
Match One: No. 14 Stetson 5, ULM 0
The Hatters were victorious in four of the five matches with wins of 2-0. Stetson's No. 4 pair of Vanessa Hurnikova and Grace Goudy won 21-16, 21-10 in a match with
Katie Felts and
Maggie Cox. Stetson claimed the fifth pair after Madeline Camp and Julia Czurylo won 21-17, 21-11 versus
Gracie Behneke and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson. The clinching point for the Hatters came with a win at the No. 1 pair when Maria Ozaeta and Katie Camp bested
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez 21-11, 21-17. The Hatters' fourth straight set win in a 24-22, 21-13 decision that went the way of Youna Coens and Carolina Oliveira over
Avery Hunter and
Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman.
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson rallied after dropping the first set 21-12 versus Julia Radelczuk and Marta Carro to win set two, 21-18 before the deciding set was won by Stetson, 15-9.
Match Two: EKU 3, ULM 2
The first two duals of the match were claimed by the Colonels when EKU collected wins in pairs four and five. Bella Williams and Elpida Pitsigkoni won as the fifth pair for EKU versus
Paige Ingersoll and
Maddie Peterson, 21-12, 21-19. Emily-Kate Lonergan and Reagan Sandlin won in a 2-1 battle versus Felts and Cox after winning the first set 21-14 and the third set 15-8 after the Warhawks won the middle set, 21-16. Ryno and Williamson swept Rachel Mueller and Gabriella Armitage in pair two, 21-17, 21-17 for ULM's first point of the match. EKU sealed the win in a three-set win when Paityn Walker and Molly Shomock edged Beck and Marquez 21-14, 15-21, 15-12. Hunter and Fredette-Huffman won the match in pair three over Madalyn Richardson and Riley Cutler, 23-21, 18-21, 15-12.
ULM is set for a tripleheader tomorrow (April 12) at the Georgia State Diggin' Duals with matches at 7:30 a.m. CT versus No. 18 Georgia State, 9:45 a.m. CT versus North Alabama and 1:30 p.m. CT versus EKU.
