ULM Falls 3-2 in Sun Belt Match Play Semifinals to Georgia Southern

The Warhawks went toe-to-toe with the conference's number one seed in the match play semifinal.

POINT CLEAR, Ala. -- The ULM women's golf team wrapped up its season at the Sun Belt Conference Championship after falling to top seed Georgia Southern, 3-2, in the match play semifinals on Thursday (April 17) afternoon at The Lakewood Club in Point Clear, Ala.

Matilda Svahn rallied after being down one to Georgia Southern's Louise Reau within the first three holes and won holes four, five and six consecutively to take a two-hole lead. Svahn claimed hole nine after sinking a birdie. Reau trimmed Svahn's lead to one at hole 13 before Svahn pushed her lead back to two holes with a birdie on 14. After Reau won hole 15 and a tie on hole 16, Svahn clinched the match with another birdie on hole 17 and won the first match, 2&1. Georgia Southern's Regina Plascencia went wire-to-wire for a 4&2 win over Johanna Sjursen and evened the match score, 1-1.

ULM's Anna Andrysova shot par on hole two while her opponent, Jiarui Chen, fired a bogey. Andrysova pushed the lead to two with a par and an opponent bogey on hole six. Chen won hole seven and cut Andrysova's lead to one. The duel continued with Andrysova holding a one-point lead until hole 17 when Andrysova secured ULM's second with with a 2&1 victory. Natachanok Tunwannarux defeated Isabel Mas Pitarch 4&3 in match five to set up a winner-take-all fourth match.

Daniela Campillo birdied the second hole to take an early lead versus LoraLie Cowart. Following a Cowart birdie on hole five, Campillo drained a par and Cowart bogeyed on hole seven to swing the lead back to the Warhawks. After a birdie by Cowart on hole eight, Campillo recaptured the lead on hole nine with her second birdie of the round and held a one-point lead heading to the second nine. Cowart made the score all square with a birdie on 14. On hole 17, Cowart made a bogey and Campillo double bogeyed to give the Eagles' their first lead in the third match with one hole to play. Cowart made par on 18 and closed out the duel to advance to the championship match.
