FORT WORTH, Texas -- The ULM beach volleyball team (12-19) dropped both of its matches on the first day of competition at the Fight in the Fort in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday (April 18).
Match One: No. 13 GCU 5, ULM 0
Katie Keefe and Rhea Kohl of the Lopes posted the first win of the day in pair no. 2 with a 21-19, 21-18 decision versus
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson. The Lopes won pair four with a 21-12, 21-18 victory by Sophia Hladyniuk and Karynn Garrow over
Maggie Cox and
Brooke Bankston. GCU won its third match in pair five when Madi Bogle and Mae Mathe won 21-12, 21-10 versus
Maddie Peterson and
Zsa Zsa Ferguson. The Lopes concluded the match with wins in pairs one and three after Jessica Drake and Becca Drake won 21-15, 21-13 over
Avery Hunter and
Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Adrianna Ferro and Ines Piret won 21-18, 21-19 versus
Kaitlyn Beck and
Madeline Marquez.
Match Two: HCU 3, ULM 2
The Huskies got on the board first with a 21-16, 21-15 victory over Cox and Bankston in pair four. The Warhawks evened the match score when Ryno and Williamson won a three-set battle over Paige Palmer and Alisia Silverthorn 21-19, 14-21, 15-12. In pair three, Audrey Pearce and Lauren Vickery of HCU won in two sets versus Hunter and Fredette-Huffman 23-21, 21-18. ULM's Peterson and Ferguson won 21-18, 21-16 over Killian Armstrong and Karla Sanchez George and tied the score 2-2. HCU won the first pair 21-14, 32-30 with Rachel Heilbrun and Kristin Gilmour defeating Beck and Marquez to clinch the match, 3-2.
