NEW ORLEANS – ULM freshman catcher
Hollie Thomas and senior pitcher
Victoria Abrams swept this week's Sun Belt weekly honors, Thomas claiming Player of the Week and Abrams claiming Pitcher of the Week, as selected by the league's head coaches and communications directors.
This is the first time ULM has ever swept the Sun Belt weekly awards. Thomas becomes the second freshman in the conference to receive the honor, the first to be named Player of the Week in 2025. Abrams becomes the first Warhawk pitcher to receive the honor since 2014.
Hollie Thomas, Sun Belt Player of the Week
Thomas had a spectacular showing over the weekend, posting a .600 batting average (6-for-10), four RBIs and two doubles. The freshman opened the scoring for the Warhawks on Friday to begin their rally when down three, getting hit by a pitch to collect an RBI. The catcher went on to hit a two-RBI double in the fourth to take the lead over the Eagles, totaling a career-high three RBIs on the day. In the series finale, the catcher logged three hits, an RBI and a stolen base, but the big moment for the freshman came in the bottom of the seventh. Thomas hit the RBI single to walk off the win for ULM, 2-1, to claim the sweep over Georgia Southern–a feat not achieved by any other Sun Belt team this season.
"Hollie has been an unbelievable addition to ULM softball this season," said head coach
Molly Fichtner. "As a freshman, she has contributed a ton to the success of our program this season. Her ability to keep moments small and stay present is elite and rare in underclassmen. She is special and will continue to do great things for this program."
Victoria Abrams, Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week
Abrams led the team through two games this weekend, posting a 0.00 ERA across 13.0 innings, striking out 10 batters and notching a .191 opponent batting average. Abrams claimed the win in a Game 1 pitching duel first, seeing her third complete game of the season. The senior shut out Georgia Southern with no runs, two walks and four strikeouts to open the series. On Saturday, Abrams saw six of the seven innings, holding strong throughout the defensive battle to allow one run–unearned–and striking out six batters. The senior is also credited with a putout on Saturday, catching a runner out at home to prevent an extended lead from the Eagles, allowing the Warhawks to make the comeback.
"I couldn't be more thrilled for Victoria to get this honor," said head coach
Molly Fichtner. "She has given this program every part of her over the past four years. Her joy and passion for the game is contagious to everyone around her. She loves this program and there's never a doubt she will always give her all for her teammates and the name on the front of the jersey."
ULM (33-16, 13-5 Sun Belt) will face Grambling State (15-23) in a midweek game at the ULM Softball Complex on Tuesday (April 22) at 6 p.m. The Warhawks will then hit the road to face South Alabama for the weekend in Mobile.
