MOBILE, Ala. – The ULM softball team (34-17, 14-6 Sun Belt) snapped their six-game win streak on Saturday, falling to South Alabama (18-29, 7-12 Sun Belt). After multiple weather delays in the bottom of the first inning, play resumed as the Jaguars continued the lead they found prior to the stop of play.
Â
After three consecutive strikeouts to close out ULM in the first, South Alabama put two on base and hit a triple, scoring two runs just before the three-hour weather delay. At 6:20 p.m., play resumed as the Warhawks went searching for the rally.Â
Â
The Jaguars extended their lead in the second with an RBI single, making the score 3-0 after two innings. While the Warhawks continued to get on base, they were unable to find scores, as the Jaguars hit two solo home runs—one in the third and one in the fifth—to maintain their lead.
Â
The ULM defense continued to battle, however, holding the Jaguars to those two runs and scoreless innings in the fourth and sixth. After
Carys Platt and
Brooklin Lippert singled,
Hollie Thomas put the Warhawks on the board in the top of the seventh, hitting an RBI double to make it a 5-1 score. Three outs in the top of the final inning were found before the rally was completed, solidifying the win for South Alabama.
Â
Elle Carter led the squad with two hits on the day,
Hollie Thomas claiming the lone RBI.
Maddie Nichols was credited with the loss, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and two walks and striking out a batter.
Bristin Bordeau saw 4.1 innings in the circle, allowing two earned runs and a walk, striking out two batters.
Â
ULM Softball will be back in action on Sunday (April 27) at 1 p.m., as they fight to clinch the series against the Jaguars.Â
