Warhawks Fall in Series Finale to South Alabama

ULM Softball went back and forth throughout the contest, the Jaguars finding four runs in later innings for the lead.

MOBILE, Ala. – The ULM softball team (34-18, 14-7 Sun Belt) fell in the series finale to South Alabama (19-29, 8-12 Sun Belt) on Sunday (April 27). After a tight game between the teams, the Jaguars found four runs in latter innings for the lead.

After going three-up, three-down in the first inning, the Warhawk defense worked to hold the Jaguars scoreless early. But an RBI single tacked one on the board for South Alabama for the 1-0 lead.

A scoreless second sent things to the third inning, as ULM fought to stay in the game. After Carys Platt and Brooklin Lippert both singled to get on base, Meagan Brown doubled to left field to drive home two runs for the one-run advantage. Victoria Abrams went on to strike out a batter, a double play closing out the third and swinging momentum in the Warhawk favor.

Another scoreless inning for both teams in the fourth brought up a pitching change as Ryley Harrison entered the circle for the second game in the series. Another double for Meagan Brown placed her in scoring position, but three outs were snagged before ULM could capitalize.

The pendulum swung the other way in the fifth, as a two-RBI double captured the lead for South Alabama for the 3-2 score. After holding ULM without a score in the sixth, a two-RBI single with loaded bases extended the lead to three. Three outs quickly came in the top of the seventh, securing the series win for the Jaguars, 5-2.

Brooklin Lippert and Meagan Brown each had multi-hit games with two apiece, Lippert extending her hitting streak to 15 games. Brown also had a multi-RBI game, driving home both runs scored by the Warhawks. Lippert also stole her 30th base in the contest, reaching the top 10 in season stolen bases. Victoria Abrams pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs and a walk, striking out three batters. Dakota Lake was credited with the loss, pitching 1.1 innings to allow three runs, a walk and striking out one batter.

ULM will return home for the final series of the regular season, facing reigning Sun Belt Tournament champion Texas State. First pitch on Thursday (May 1) is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Bobcats.
