INDIANAPOLIS -- Six ULM men's track & field athletes have punched their tickets to the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships East First Round, the selection committee revealed on Thursday (May 22). The NCAA East First Round will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of the University of North Florida from May 28-31.
The six athletes representing the Warhawks include
Stafon Roach (triple jump),
Algirdas Strelciunas (long jump),
Devin Bilbo (110m hurdles),
Ali Eren Unlu (high jump),
Mikun Adeniran (discus) and
Matthew Malcolm (400m hurdles). It marks the first time since 2016 ULM will send six or more male athletes to regional competition and is the first time since 2017 since the Warhawks have had six or more athletes compete at a regional event.
Roach, a sophomore from Georgetown Guyana, returns to the NCAA East First Round following a qualification in the triple jump his freshman season. Roach recorded a mark of 16.20m (53' 1.75) at the prestigious Texas Relays in March, which is ranked seventh on the NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List. Roach brought home second-place at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a 15.90m (52' 2") leap in the triple jump.
A senior from Pasvalys, Lithuania, Strelciunas registered a personal-best jump of 7.74m (25' 4.75") in the long jump at the Bobcat Invitational. The senior transfer from Lamar earned his first qualification to an NCAA Regional event and won the long jump in the SBC Indoor Championship back in February.
Bilbo placed third at the SBC Championships with a personal-best time of 13.73 in the 110m hurdles and is ranked No. 29 in the East Region. It will be the first NCAA appearance for the senior from Bossier City, La.
Unlu, the 2023 SBC Outdoor Track Men's Performer of the Year, is back in the NCAA Regionals after missing the 2024 competition due to injury. His season-best jump of 2.10m (6' 10.75") was made at the SBC Outdoor Championships, which is No. 44 in the East Region.
Following a toss of 53.63m (175' 11") and an event win in the discus at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational, Adeniran, a freshman from Basingstoke, United Kingdom, has qualified for the NCAA East First Round. He is ranked No. 45 in the East Region.
Rounding out the qualifiers for the Warhawks is
Matthew Malcolm, who ran a personal-best time of 51.36 at the LSU Alumni Gold on April 26. The sophomore from West Monroe, La., was on the 4x400m relay team that secured a runner-up finish at the SBC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He claimed event victories in the 400m hurdles at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational and the Louisiana Tech Jim Mize Invitational.
All four days of the NCAA East First Round will be streamed on ESPN+. The
schedule of events has been finalized with the competition beginning Wednesday.
