Preview: Warhawks Open Sun Belt Play in Hattiesburg

ULM will face Southern Miss to start conference play for the second straight season.

MONROE, La. – ULM volleyball begins Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with a pair of matches against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. Match one occurs on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m., and match two is on Friday, Sept. 26, at the same time.
 
FOLLOW THE WARHAWKS –

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES –
USM has won three matches in a row, a result of its sweep at the Golden Eagle Classic with three-set wins over Grambling, Northwestern State, and Jackson State. Sadie McAda represents the top threat on the attack, with 4.19 kills per set, which is good for the third-best in the Sun Belt in that category. Morgen Durgens averages 9.40 assists per set, and Sunni Sheppard leads with 4.33 digs per set, which also ranks fourth in the conference. Former Warhawk Brynn Botkin leads the team with 17 total aces on the serve. At the line, Lillie Johnson totals 28 blocks on the year.
 
CLEAR THE HALL –
Freshman outside hitter Aniya Hall has had a stellar 2025 season so far. She leads the team in total kills with 215 and in kills per set with 4.06. Her hitting percentage also ranks first on the squad at .272. In the Sept. 16 match vs. Lamar, she collected a career-high 29 kills in a five-set victory.
 
Hall has also been named to three all-tournament teams in 2025, with her most recent accolade being earning Bearkat Classic All-Tournament team honors.
 
PLUMMER WILL FIX IT –
Freshman Kennedy Plummer is fresh off an excellent start to her career as a Warhawk. She is second on the team in kills per set with 2.49 and is hitting .239 on the year. Along with fellow outside hitter Hall, Plummer was named to the Cowgirl Classic All-Tournament team last weekend.
 
IN KENZIE WE TRUST –
Junior middle blocker Kenzie Behl serves as one of the key contributors in a 9-5 start to the season. She, along with Hall, was named to the Southeastern Showdown All-Tournament and Bearkat Classic All-Tournament teams. She is fourth in total kills with 74 and is second in hitting percentage with a .269 mark. Her defensive production is also good with 45 total digs and 41 total blocks which leads the team.
 
MORE OF MORGAN –
Junior setter Morgan Howard is the main returner for the Warhawks in 2025. She is averaging 5.89 assists per set with 312 total. She is also the team leader in service aces with 31, which is more than the leader of the 2024 season through just 14 matches. With her total aces, she ranks third nationally in the category. Her defensive numbers rank well on the team as she holds third place in total digs with 110.
 
RANEY ON TO DEFEND –
Redshirt Junior libero Briana Raney leads the way defensively for ULM this season. She's produced 160 total digs with 4.00 digs per set with a .982 reception percentage. She also contributes 41 assists on the year offensively.
 
HOT START –
The Warhawks head into conference play with nine wins on the year, which is the most total wins in a season and the best start since 2019. It's also double the win total from last season through only 14 matches. They currently rank sixth in the Sun Belt Conference standings and third in the West Division.
