Soccer Preview: at Coastal Carolina

ULM Soccer remains on the road, traveling east to take on the Chanticleers.

CONWAY, S.C. – The Warhawks (7-2-1, 2-0-1 SBC) will be traveling east to face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-2-4, 0-1-2 SBC) at the CCU Soccer Complex. Kickoff on Friday (Sept. 26) is slated for 6 p.m. CT / 7 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS –

Coastal Carolina is currently 3-2-4 on the season, still on the hunt for their first Sun Belt win with a 0-1-2 record. Most recently, the Chanticleers took a 0-0 draw against Old Dominion, previously falling to South Alabama and tying with James Madison. In nonconference play, the Chants found victories over Richmond, Campbell and ECU. Dolcie O'Connor leads the team with six points, three goals and nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper Aris Lamanna has started in all nine matches, with a 1.22 goals-against average, 34 saves and three clean sheets.

UNBEATEN STREAK –

The Warhawks hold the Sun Belt's longest active undefeated streak with six matches, dating back to the 2-1 win over Little Rock on August 27. They have outscored opponents 11-4 during the run, with seven of their 11 goals scored by a different player.

SUN BELT HONORS –

Forward Skylar Blaise was voted Offensive Player of the Week on September 23. She led the Warhawk offense, posting two goals and an assist to accumulate five points across two matches. Blaise first logged an assist in the first goal against Marshall, scoring her own goal unassisted less than a minute later to tie things up. On Sunday against Arkansas State, Blaise scored the game winner with the lone goal of the match.

SET PIECES –

The Warhawks have been known to capitalize off set pieces this season, with nine of the team's 19 goals coming off set pieces. ULM also ranks second in the Sun Belt in corner kicks, averaging 6.0 per game as they look for more scoring opportunities.

O CAPTAINS OUR CAPTAINS –

ULM Soccer has named three captains this season: forward Skylar Blaise, defender Beth Strutton and defender Libby Holmes. Blaise, Strutton and Holmes have collected 13, eight and six points, respectively.

SERIES VS. COASTAL CAROLINA –

This is the eighth meeting between the Chanticleers and the Warhawks, meeting in Conway for the fifth time, the first since 2022. Coastal Carolina holds a 6-1 record in the series, with the lone ULM win coming in 2017, a 2-0 shutout at Brown Stadium. On the opposite side, the Chants have collected five shutouts over the Warhawks, on a two-match streak dating back to 2022.

LAST TIME OUT –

JONESBORO, Ark. – The ULM soccer team claimed a 1-0 win at Arkansas State to remain unbeaten in conference play. After going scoreless in the first half, captain Skylar Blaise broke away to score her third game winner of the season in the second half.

Unlike many of ULM's recent matches, both teams spent the majority of the first half battling for possession, neither able to gain control of the ball. Three shots came in the first half for the Warhawks, with the Red Wolves recording their first shot in the 37th minute. But neither team was able to convert a shot into a score.

While both teams held the 0-0 score in the second half, ULM found the attacking pressure, fighting to find the first score of the contest. Just as the Warhawks were able to apply pressure, the Red Wolves began to find opportunities, notching a shot on target, Jen Handy with the save.

In the 65th minute, Giulia Franco passed the ball to Blaise, who broke away and easily captured her sixth goal of the season and the first of the match. The Red Wolves pushed to find the equalizer, but the ULM defense kept them at bay, maintaining the 1-0 win.
