NORFOLK, Va. – The ULM women's basketball team (8-12, 3-8 Sun Belt) dropped Wednesday night's contest against Old Dominion (13-9, 5-5 Sun Belt) by a score of 85-62. The Monarchs shot 49 percent from the field while holding the Warhawks to just 31 percent shooting overall.
Nakiyah Mays-Prince led ULM in scoring with 19 points and tied for the team lead with four assists.
Marcavia Shavers posted her sixth double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing a game high 17 rebounds.
J'Mani Ingram chipped in with 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
The Warhawks found themselves behind early after ODU went on a 14-2 run to start the game after an initial basket by Mays-Prince. Shavers would get loose inside for a pair of baskets in the final minutes of the initial quarter but ULM still found themselves down by eight.
Mays-Prince would answer early baskets by the Monarchs with back-to-back three-pointers but a 6-0 run by the hosts would push the lead to 12 prior to a long-range effort by
Asjah Inniss. ODU would head into halftime with a 13-point lead as they closed the quarter on a 9-3 run.
ODU would continue to control the game on both ends as ULM were unable to string together consecutive baskets for the entirety of the third quarter. The Warhawks continued to stay aggressive in the fourth quarter in getting to the free-throw line highlighted by a three-point play by Mays-Prince. The Monarch offense continued to stay prolific as they were able to ride out the lead they had built to the end.
ULM will look to bounce back on Saturday as they take on Appalachian State. Tipoff at Holmes Convocation Center is scheduled for noon CT.
