Brodnex Hits 1,000 Career Points Against Texas State

Four Warhawks scored in double figures in the contest.

MONROE, La. – Lavell Brodnex surpassed 1,000 career points in a close game against Texas State (9-7, 2-2 Sun Belt), as ULM (3-13, 0-4 Sun Belt) ultimately fell with an 84-79 score. While the Warhawks shot 50% from the field and from beyond the arc, the Bobcats out-rebounded the Warhawks with a +15 margin to secure the victory.

Brodnex drilled a three with 43 seconds remaining in the first half to reach the milestone, scoring 23 points to lead the team. The forward arrives this season in Monroe after a season at Wagner College, posting eight points and two seasons at Cameron University where he tallied 800 points. Brodnex's tally in Monroe sits at 198, just two shy of the 200 mark this season.

Two Warhawks in Brodnex and Krystian Lewis scored 20+ yet again, Brodnex also catching a team-leading seven rebounds. Lewis had six assists with his 21 points, along with three steals and Renars Sondors posted three blocks to lead the team with his 10 points.

For the Bobcats, Mark Drone led the team with 24 points, shooting nine-of-14 from the field. DJ Hall led the team with seven boards to go with his 17 points. Texas State rounded out the double-digit scorers with ULM transfer Jalen Bolden (13) and Kaden Gumbs (12).

Dylan Diaz opened the scoring for the Warhawks with an early jumper, looking to pull ahead. Lewis followed with a three to maintain the edge. The Bobcats went shot-for-shot with ULM to keep it close, eventually going on a run to surpass the home team. Drone's triple gave Texas State the lead, one the team would maintain through the rest of the half.

The Bobcats shot five-for-five from the field to reach a double-figure advantage as the Warhawks tried to stay in it. Lewis and Brodnex fought to battle back, Brodnex hitting a triple that would cement his status in the 1,000-point club, his 192ndwhile at ULM. While the Warhawks worked on a comeback, the half concluded with a score of 46-40 in favor of the Bobcats.

The Warhawks started the scoring in the second half with Diaz hitting a three-pointer. Brodnex followed things up with a dunk to make it a one-point game, but a run by the visitors set up a multiple-possession lead for them again. As ULM whittled things down, led by MJ Russell, it was a block from Brodnex that began to turn the tides and prevent the score.

Fouls got in the way of the Warhawks, as multiple calls gave possession to the Bobcats to score again to maintain the advantage. Texas State capitalized on a scoring drought for ULM, reaching a double-digit lead with 3:33 remaining on the clock. While triples from Sondors and Brodnex helped chip away to a three-point margin with 30 seconds on the clock, the Warhawks were unable to complete the comeback for the 84-79 score.

ULM will hit the road to Lafayette next week, making the return trip to the Ragin' Cajuns on January 8. Tipoff in the Cajundome is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
