Career Highs by Ingram, Shavers Not Enough vs. Red Wolves

ULM dropped their first home contest of the season vs. Arkansas State.

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's basketball team (6-7, 1-3 Sun Belt) battled Arkansas State (13-3, 4-0 Sun Belt) for the second time this season Saturday, losing by a score of 89-71 inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Red Wolves outscored the Warhawks 26-12 in the third quarter after taking a two-point lead into halftime and were able to maintain their lead till the end.

J'Mani Ingram established a new career high with 30 points on a personal best 12-for-18 shooting to lead ULM in scoring. Marcavia Shavers posted a double-double for the second consecutive game as she scored 12 points while grabbing a career high 21 rebounds including 13 on the defensive glass alone.

After conceding the opening two baskets, ULM put together a 6-0 run behind a pair of free throws and layup from Ingram. The North Augusta, S.C. native would lead the way with 10 points in the quarter, but the Red Wolves would take a six-point lead into the first break thanks to making five three-pointers as a team.

A three-point play by Ingram set the tone for the second quarter as both sides went back-and-forth offensively over its entirety. The Warhawks got a pair of three-pointers from the unlikely duo of Ingram and Marissa Gasaway to cut the deficit to one on two occasions. After multiple baskets by the visitors, ULM utilized a 9-2 run to tie the game at 42 before a pair of free throws afforded the Red Wolves a two-point halftime lead.

The third quarter belonged to Arkansas State as the visitors put together a 19-2 run, highlighted by a 14-0 stretch, that was fueled by potent three-point shooting and turnovers on the part of ULM. The Red Wolves would withstand an initial push from the Warhawks at the beginning of the fourth quarter to see out the game and seal their 11th straight win.

ULM outscored Arkansas State 38-34 in points in the paint and 43-37 in bench points while also forcing 19 turnovers. The Warhawks shot 42 percent from the field overall and went 21-for-33 from the free-throw line.

The Warhawks will head back out on the road next week for their first meeting of the season with the Ragin' Cajuns on Thursday. Tipoff at the Cajundome is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
