BOONE, N.C. – The ULM women's basketball team (8-12, 3-8 Sun Belt) conclude their eastern road trip for the week with a matchup against App State (10-10, 3-7 Sun Belt). Tip-off for Friday's game against the Mountaineers is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT (Jan. 30). The Warhawks are coming off an 85-62 loss at Old Dominion.
SERIES HISTORY –
ULM and App State are set to meet for the 16th time in their histories. App State have won all 15 of the previous meetings including an 8-0 record in Boone. Despite the one-sided nature of the series, over half of the games between the Warhawks and Mountaineers have been decided by 9 points or less including last year's 73-71 win by App State in Monroe.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS –
App State enter Saturday's contest with a 10-10 record overall and are coming off of a 60-57 win over South Alabama. The Mountaineers are led in scoring by a trio of players in Jayden McBride (10.5 PPG), Daisia Mitchell (10.4 PPG) and Emma Smith (10.1 PPG). As a team, App State lead the Sun Belt Conference only allowing 58 points per game and are ranked inside the top-40 teams in the nation and third in the conference in rebounding margin at 7.1.
LEADING THE WAY –
ULM's scoring attack has evolved into a triple threat of players averaging at least 9.5 points per game. J'Mani Ingram leads the team with 11.4 PPG and is followed by Nakiyah Mays-Prince (10.2 PPG) and Marcavia Shavers (9.5 PPG). Marcavia Shavers averages 8.9 rebounds per game to lead the team while Nakiyah Mays-Prince has posted a team-best average of 4.4 assists per game. Asjah Inniss and Nakiyah Mays-Prince lead the team in steals with 38 while Keshunti Nichols has recorded a team high 10 blocks. Jazmine Jackson stands as the team's top option from three-point range as she has knocked 32 of her 87 attempts this season.
SHAVERS DOUBLES UP –
Graduate student Marcavia Shavers became the first Warhawk player this season to record a double-double when she did so on New Years Day vs. South Alabama. Shavers scored a then career-high 17 points behind a career-best eight baskets while also pulling down 17 rebounds. Shavers followed that performance with her third career double-double and her eighth career game of double-digit rebounds as she scored 12 points while recording a career-high 21 rebounds vs. Arkansas State. The 21 rebounds are the most tallied by a Sun Belt player this season. Shavers is now up to six double-doubles on the season after posting 15 points and 17 rebounds on Wednesday at Old Dominion.
OUTSTANDING ON THE OFFENSIVE GLASS –
The Warhawks completed their game at Indiana with a 19-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The last time the Warhawks held an opponent to one offensive rebound was against UT Arlington in 2021. ULM are now second in the Sun Belt and are ranked 15th in the nation in offensive rebounding, averaging 16.1 offensive rebounds per game with a season high of 31 against the Cajuns.
FREQUENTLY FORCING TURNOVERS –
ULM continued their proficient season of forcing mistakes out of their opponents at South Alabama as they forced a season high 29 turnovers. The Warhawks are ranked inside the top-45 in all of Division I with 20.6 turnovers forced per game. ULM have seen three different players establish new career highs for steals in a game this year. Graduate student Keshunti Nichols recorded four steals vs. Louisiana Tech, junior Kamille Brown posted five steals vs. Grambling State and graduate student Asia Barclay notched five steals at Alabama. As a team, the Warhawks are inside the top-45 teams in Division I averaging 10.8 steals per game having recorded a season high of 20 also against the Jaguars.
