ULM Women’s Basketball Welcomes New Assistant Coaches

William Marchino and Chastadie Barrs will join the Warhawks for the 2026-27 season.

MONROE, La. — Scotty Fletcher, head coach of the ULM women's basketball team, has announced two new assistant coaches will join the staff. William Marchino and Chastadie Barrs are welcomed to Monroe for the 2026-27 season.

William Marchino arrives at ULM from Seward County Community College, where he spent three seasons as the head coach. He led the Saints to their second consecutive 20+-win season in 2025-26, recording a 57-39 overall record. Marchino coached nine All-KJCCC honorees, as well as the 2025-26 KJCCC Player of the Year and Third Team All-American Avery Marchino. Marchino previously spent a season at Washburn as an assistant coach. He began his first stint at Seward in 2020, where he helped the Saints to four Top 25 wins and a finish in the Region VI semifinals.

Marchino spent the 2018 to 2020 seasons at Grand View University, assisting the team to the 2018 NAIA National Tournament, the first in Grand View's history. Prior to his jump to the collegiate ranks, he was the head women's basketball coach at Iowa Central Academy for three seasons. Marchino also owned and operated his own AAU program, the Iowa Dragons for eight years with his wife, Amanda.

Marchino is a 2008 graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving his bachelor's degree in health and sports studies.

"Coach Will is a home run hire for my staff," said head coach Scotty Fletcher. "He has done everything in a program possible. His servant leadership and passion for impacting players on and off the court really stuck out to me when getting to know him. He does an incredible job of recruiting. I love the fact that he has been a junior college head coach and understands the value of running a program. He will be instrumental in our day-to-day operations and will provide a huge impact on the recruiting daily! We are beyond grateful to welcome Will, Amanda and Kinsleigh to the bayou!"

Chastadie Barrs arrives on the bayou after a season in Memphis, serving as the director of recruiting. While at Memphis, Barrs assisted in coaching Daejah Richmond, who was named to the American Conference All-Defensive and All-Newcomer teams. Prior to her time in Memphis, she spent two seasons as the assistant coach at College of Charleston. Barrs witnessed Charleston's then-winningest season in program history in 2024-25, with 25 wins and a trip to the WNIT.

Prior to her coaching career, Barrs was a four-time Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year, also earning Player of the Year recognition in 2019. Barrs continues to hold the NCAA record with 649 career steals, as well as the NCAA season steals record with 193. She set a school record with five triple-doubles, which was the second most in the NCAA in the 2018-2019 season, while becoming the second player in NCAA history to score 1,000 points, collect 500 rebounds, dish out 500 assists and have 500 steals in a career.

Barrs started the basketball organization, Hoop Culture DFW, where she composed two teams that competed in the highest level of AAU. Prior to starting the basketball organization and coaching, Barrs played basketball in Lausanne Switzerland for the Federation Suisse de Basketball where she earned Defensive Player of the Year. In her one season with the team, she recorded 50 steals and averaged 4.5 steals per game.

Barrs graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lamar with a bachelor's degree in corporate communications in 2019.

"Coach Barrs' resume speaks for itself as a player," said Fletcher. "She is determined, hungry and passionate to impact a program in a player development and recruiting role immediately. She has a huge heart for helping young women and will be able to help them with her wisdom from her playing days both collegiately and professionally. When visiting with her, it became very clear and evident from day one that we are on the same page. Our defensive philosophies match, as well as her ability to connect with recruits, which makes her a huge addition to my staff and the Warhawk family. I am very honored, appreciative and thankful to have her and daughter Ariyah join us on the bayou!"
