SCOUTING THE PANTHERS –Â
Georgia State holds an 8-3-1 record, while standing tall at second in the Sun Belt (3-1). After picking up a draw at Auburn, the Panthers snagged nonconference wins over ETSU and Gardner-Webb to name a few. The team has collected three-straight conference victories leading into this match, defeating Georgia Southern, South Alabama and Arkansas State. Aaliyah Faddoul leads the team with 20 points (8g, 4a) under her belt, as keeper Alondra Iriarte holds strong with three shutouts and a 0.94 goals-against average.
SERIES HISTORY VS. GEORGIA STATE –
The Panthers will travel to Monroe for the first time since 2023, as they hold the 8-1-1 edge in the 10-match series history. The Warhawks' lone win came in 2014, a 2-1 victory in Monroe. A draw came on the road against Georgia State, as the Warhawks hunt for the first win over GSU in over a decade. Only three of 10 matches have been decided by more than one goal, most scores keeping it close.Â
LAST TIME OUT –
The ULM Warhawks fell to Louisiana Tech in the opening contest of the Radiance Technologies I-20 Showdown. Despite posting a season-high 24 shots to La. Tech's 11, the Bulldogs recorded eight shots on target to find three scores in the second half. Early shots came in favor of the home team, majorly from Madison Pensom, who recorded a hat trick for Louisiana Tech. But the Warhawks took control in the first half, recording 13 shots versus the Bulldogs' three. It was
Ines de Lope Casanova who broke through after an assist from
Bernadett Stefan, de Lope leading the team in scoring.Â
Â
While a few more corners gave shot opportunities to the Warhawks, time expired in the first half, the visiting team ahead by a goal. An opening corner for Louisiana Tech set the tone for a Bulldog-driven second half, as Pensom recorded her first goal just six minutes into the half to tie up the game. Pensom struck again in the 58th minute. Less than a minute later, she knocked in her third as the Bulldogs held the 3-1 lead just 15 minutes into the half. As the shots continued to fly for ULM, the team worked to make a change.Â
Â
With time running out, it was
Charli Harris who took matters into her own hands, as
Jenni Huttunen assisted her to cut the deficit with a goal in the 84th minute. While a handful of shots continued to come for ULM, time expired before the equalizer could as the Bulldogs claimed the 3-2 victory.
FIRST-YEAR FIRE –
Victoria Vinals opened the season with a goal in the 80th minute at Little Rock. Vinals is the first first-year player to open the season's scoring since 2018.
Charli Harris then followed with a brace against Alcorn, making her the first first-year since 2022 to record a multi-goal game, the lone first-year in the Sun Belt with multiple goals in the opening week of competition. Harris followed the week with her first career assist against Jackson State, now posting three this season.
LOOKING AHEAD –
The Warhawks will travel east yet again this season, facing Marshall on October 11. Kickoff against the Thundering Herd is slated for noon CT / 1 p.m. ET in Huntington.
