HATTIESBURG, Miss.– The ULM women's basketball team (13-12, 6-8 Sun Belt) won their fourth game in a row in emphatic fashion Thursday night as they defeated Southern Miss (12-13, 5-8 Sun Belt) 85-62. The Warhawks shot a season best 50 percent from field to secure the program's first three-game road winning streak since 2013 and the second largest margin of victory over the Golden Eagles.
Â
Jazmine Jackson scored 22 points behind a career high six three-pointers to pace the team for the evening.
Marcavia Shavers recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Nakiyah Mays-Prince (14),
J'Mani Ingram (11) and
Asjah Inniss (11) each chipped in double-digit points with Inniss adding seven rebounds and a game high six assists.
Â
Southern Miss came out of the gate knocking down their first four shots to take an early 10-2 lead. A tough drive by Inniss and a pair of baskets inside by
Keshunti Nichols helped ULM get back within one possession. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to seven once again before a three-pointer from Mays-Prince opened the floodgates for the Warhawks. The visitors would close the quarter on a 13-3 run and back-to-back threes by
Kamille Brown and Jackson would give ULM their first lead of the game heading into the first break.   Â
Â
The Warhawks would not slow down to start the second quarter as Jackson scored the first five points for ULM to initiate an 11-2 run to push the lead to double figures. After a brief interruption to their scoring spree, the Warhawk offense would reignite for a 17-4 run and another deep three-pointer from Jackson would push the lead above 20. ULM went on to record their most points in a quarter this season with 32 against Southern Miss while also holding their hosts to just 13 points of their own.
Â
Both sides traded baskets to begin the third quarter as the Golden Eagles were unable to chip away at the deficit. Ingram converted a pair of acrobatic shots to maintain a 20-plus point lead and Jackson hit another three-pointer to continue to keep the pressure on. The Warhawks would close the quarter on a 6-0 run behind baskets in the paint by three different players.
Â
An 8-0 run by the Golden Eagles proved to be their final stand to get the game back within 20 before it was halted by Jackson's fifth three-pointer of the night. Jackson would add another to her ledger a few moments later and a floater in the lane by Inniss would also help continue to keep Southern Miss at bay. Neither team would score for a three-minute period in the final stages of the game before a tough layup by Mays-Prince would allow the Warhawks to close out the resounding victory.
Â
ULM held the Golden Eagles to 38 percent shooting for the game and 24 percent shooting from three-point range. They out-rebounded Southern Miss 47-29 and had twice as many assists as their opponents with 16.
Â
The Warhawks will look to extend both their overall win streak and their winning streak on the road when they take on Troy on Saturday. Tipoff from Trojan Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
