GULFPORT, Miss. – The ULM women's golf team repeated as Great River Cup Champions and won all three matches in the match-play tournament versus Little Rock, Missouri State and Southern Miss at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Mississippi.
On Monday, the Warhawks defeated Little Rock by a score of 3-1-1 to advance to the semifinal match.Â
Anna Andrysova cruised to a 3&2 win in her match versus Eleonore Aernouts and sank a trio of birdies during her round.Â
Johanna Sjursen won her match 3&2 over Cloe Poizac for ULM's second win andÂ
Tessa Ion earned a 2&1 win with an eagle and a birdie in her match win over Petra Balkovec.
Emma Manzini tied with Elvira Flodstrom to round things out,
Daniela Campillo falling to Iara Martin.
ULM advanced to the championship match after besting Missouri State 4-1 in the semifinals on Monday afternoon. Campillo needed just 13 holes in a strong 6&5 victory over Chloe Bolte, carding three birdies. Sjursen played strong with three birdies in a row, collecting five in the round to claim the 3&2 win over Kyleigh Pfitzner. Freshman Manzini carded four birdies against Jiayi Zhang to win 2&1 in the third win of the round for the Warhawks. Andrysova was able to hold the edge for the majority of the contest against Tierney Baumstark, completing with a one-up score. Ion fell to Kiser Pannier as ULM sat at 4-1 and headed for the championships for the third-straight year.
The Warhawks wrapped up the tournament championship with a 3-2 win over co-host and reigning Sun Belt champion Southern Miss. Campillo posted an eagle and three birdies on the way to a 3&2 victory over Louisde Cuyvers. After Ion fell in a 5&3 match against Liv Romer, Taylor Trible claimed the one-up edge over Andrysova for the Golden Eagle advantage. But after maintaing the lead throughout all 18 holes, Manzini claimed a one-up win over Savannah Van Gaalen. Coming down to the final match, it was Sjursen vs. Fernanda Gorostiaga, remaining tied for the majority of the battle. Sjursen finally claimed the edge for the two-up victory, securing the 3-2 win and three-peat for the Warhawks.Â
The ULM women's golf team will continue the spring season next week, competing in the Chevron Collegiate. The Houston-hosted event will be held from February 23 to 24.
