NEW ORLEANS – A late rally by ULM baseball came up short in an 11-7 defeat at the hands of Alabama A&M on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (2-4) struck first at the top of the first, scoring four runs produced by three hits, a sacrifice fly and a throwing error.
Bryce Blaser collected a walk in the bottom frame, but that was all for the Warhawks (2-5) going into the second.

Alabama A&M again put a runner in scoring position at the top of the inning before
Adam Brodnax collected two strikeouts to end the threat. With two outs at the bottom of the third,
Davis Mauzy drew a walk before
Micah Dean powered a double into left field, putting the Warhawks on the board down three at the end of three.

The Bulldogs put two more runs on the board at the top frame of the fourth with back-to-back hits to make it 6-1.
Jake Haggard and
Dean Hannah produced singles in the bottom of the inning, but ULM came up empty. AAMU, using four two-out hits, including a DeVante Wells two-run homer, stretched the lead to nine runs with a four-spot at the top of the fifth. The Warhawks only produced one hit in the next two innings to keep the score at 10-1.

At the bottom of the eighth inning, Dean and Blaser both doubled to put the first run on the board for ULM since the third inning.
Dayne Wray joined the double parade and scored Blaser, adding another run. With two runners on base, singles from
Garrett Wiethorn and Mauzy scored another pair of runs. At the end, the Warhawks put up six scores to make it 10-7 going into the ninth.

AAMU added an insurance run at the top of the ninth to make the deficit four. Haggard walked to start the bottom frame, but three straight outs ended the game as the Warhawks lost their third straight contest.

Mauzy, Dean and Wiethorn all ended with multi-hit games. Blaser collected two RBI and drew two walks.

ULM ends the weekend tomorrow at 4 p.m. against the host school in New Orleans.
