Warhawks Fall in Midweek Contest to Jaguars

Krystian Lewis reached the 20-point mark and had a team-leading seven boards.

MOBILE, Ala. – A dreadful first half for ULM men's basketball resulted in an 89-54 loss to South Alabama Wednesday night.

The Warhawks (4-26, 1-16 Sun Belt) shot just 5-33 from the field in the half with a 1-19 mark in three-point attempts. They also missed the first 18 triples in the half. Despite improvements in the second half, the overall percentage from the field stood at 29.3%.

The Jaguars started the game hot with an 11-2 run within the first five minutes. Ayomide Bamisile made a dunk with just under 14 minutes to go, but the Warhawks went scoreless over the next three-plus minutes as USA increased the lead to 14.

Adam Olsen drilled a triple to put the home team up by 17 with 9:15 to go in the first half. With the score at 27-9, ten unanswered points, including a Jayden Cooper and Olsen three-pointer, put the Jaguars ahead even further.

Krystian Lewis made a shot from beyond the arc for just the first time in the first 18 minutes of play. The Warhawks had missed their first 18 attempts until that point. After all was said and done at the break, South Alabama established a 28-point cushion.

ULM had better scoring at the start of the second half with nine points in the first three minutes, but USA answered with three triples to keep the margin wide. The Warhawks continued to fight in the half, with Lewis and MJ Russell each having three shots from deep and both reaching double-digit points, but the Jaguars' lead was too great, leading to a 35-point loss.

Lewis led the team with 20 points and collected a team-leading seven rebounds. Russell was the team leader in steals with 2 and also produced six boards. Alex Molofeev tallied a team-leading five assists.

The Warhawks end the regular season with a Friday night game at Troy on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
