GRAMBLING, La. – The ULM softball team (13-5) picked up a sixth-straight win in a 2-0 victory over Grambling (6-8). This marks the 23
rd consecutive win for the Warhawks over the Tigers,
Dakota Lake now striking out 14 Tigers in her two seasons at ULM.
In a fast-paced game, both teams got runners on base in the first but were unable to convert. The same story followed in the second inning, Lake striking out a batter to conclude the inning and send the game to the third.
Three-up, three-down innings plagued both teams in the third and fourth, Grambling finding momentum in the fifth. A runner on base continued to advance as Lake struck out batters, placing her in scoring position with two outs. But
Hollie Thomas was able to catch her stealing home as ULM snagged the third out and prevented the lead.
After a scoreless sixth,
Morgan Brown hit a lead-off triple to get in position for the leading run.
Kailey Monsef walked as
Reece Briggs hit a sacrifice fly to left field for the first run of the game.
Brooklin Lippert then singled to drive home Monsef, settling the score at 2-0. Lake struck out two more batters in the bottom of the seventh, closing out the game to claim the complete game shutout.
Meagan Brown,
Morgan Brown and Lippert all tallied hits in the game, with Briggs and Lippert claiming RBIs.
Dally Engle snagged six putouts at catcher to lead the defense. Lake claimed the win with all seven innings under her belt, striking out a career-high nine batters while allowing no runs, three hits and a walk.
The ULM softball team looks to carry this momentum into the weekend as the Warhawks travel to Oxford, Mississippi for the Ole Miss Classic. ULM will first face Jacksonville State on Friday (Feb. 27) at 2 p.m.
