BATON ROUGE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team (1-5) fell in the first day of the Tiger Beach Challenge, hosted by LSU. With competition against Washington and UAB, the Warhawks fell in both matches, 5-0.
Match 1: Washington 5, ULM 0
In the first flight,
Madeline Marquez and
Avery Hunter were swept (21-13, 21-8) by Washington's Katarina Pantoric and Emma Hohenaver.
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson also took a sweep in pair two (24-22, 21-17), the same happening with pair three in
Izabela Zukowska and
Natalie Taggart (21-11, 21-13).
Calli Otjen and
Katie Felts then took the sweep to the Huskies (21-16, 21-18) before the final flight (
Maddie Peterson/
Brooke Bankston) fell, 21-10 and 21-12.
Match 2: UAB 3, ULMÂ 0
In the first pair, Ryno/Williamson dropped in a three-set match. The duo claimed the first set, 21-13, before falling in straight sets, 21-16 and 15-12. The pair of Hunter and
Paige Ingersoll were swept (21-17, 21-11), as were the duo of Otjen/Zukowska (21-17, 21-15). Taggart/Felts were also swept by the Blazers (21-17, 21-14), while Peterson/Bankston went to three sets with UAB. The fifth pair fell in the first set, 21-16, but a swing in momentum gave a score of 22-20 for ULM. A final set score of 15-11 secured the 5-0 win for UAB.
