ULM Softball Concludes Play in Ole Miss Classic

A Hollie Thomas home run in the seventh became the lone run for the Warhawks.

OXFORD, Miss. – The ULM softball team (13-9) fell in a 5-1 contest to Ole Miss (16-5) to conclude the Ole Miss Classic on Sunday (March 1). Hollie Thomas scored the lone run of the game as she hit her fourth home run of the season.

A 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first allowed for Ole Miss to try its hand on the offense. Back-to-back singles had ULM vulnerable, but the defense was able to escape the jam. Two strikeouts in the top of the second sent the Rebel hitters back out. A single and two walks set up an RBI single for Ole Miss' first run of the game.

Both teams with three-up, three-down in the third, another heavy fourth giving the Rebels additional scores. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases, a grand slam from Pickens made it a 5-0 score after four innings. Neither team was able to find a score in the fifth or sixth, even as both teams placed runners in scoring position.

In the top of the seventh, it was Thomas with her fourth home run of the season to get the Warhawks on the board, 5-1. Three outs found ULM before any more runs could score, securing the victory for the Rebels.

Thomas had the lone multi-hit game of the day for ULM, also collecting the lone RBI. Kelsey Kovar also logged a hit on the day. Dakota Lake was credited with the loss, seeing 1.2 innings of time and allowing three hits and three walks. Skylar Waggoner (2.2 IP) and Ashanti McDade (2.0 IP) also saw time in the circle, McDade striking out three.

The ULM softball team will return to the ULM Softball Complex next week, facing Grambling State on Wednesday (March 4) at 6 p.m.
