MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team (14-9) improved to seven wins at the ULM Softball Complex on Wednesday (March 4), winning in a five-inning, 12-4 score over Grambling State (6-9). A hot start in the first inning set the tone for a successful outing collecting 14 hits.
Grambling State scored two in the opening inning, a single and a fielder's choice getting two on base. A two-RBI single from Logan Ray Gaspar got the Tigers on the board, as three outs were collected to shut down the scoring. The Warhawks had their own run in the first inning, however, a lead-off walk getting ULM a runner on base. An RBI double from
Meagan Brown was followed by an RBI single from
Morgan Brown to tie the score with no outs.
Maryssa Zenzen then notched an in-the-park home run, scoring two more for the 4-2 lead after one inning.

Skylar Waggoner closed out the Tigers in the second as ULM continued work on the offense. A lead-off single from
Kelsey Kovar gave way to a walk and eventually a
Meagan Brown triple for two more runs.
Morgan Brown followed her twin sister with a double to add the seventh run to the board.
Grambling State's Kamryn Broussard hit a lead-off double in the third, a sacrifice fly scoring the Tigers' third run and a single scoring the fourth. But
Kelsey Kovar came up to bat in the bottom of the third, scoring
Kailey Monsef as the score sat at 8-4. A scoreless inning came for both teams in the fourth, the Warhawks holding off the Tigers in the fifth.
A lead-off bunt single from
Elle Carter placed one on base, Carter advancing to third from an error. Kovar continued her run with an RBI double for another score. Kovar then took her turn stealing home to add once more to the tally, just two away from cutting the game at five innings. A double from
Meagan Brown was followed by an RBI single from Morgan,
Kennan Nunamaker walking off the game for the second time this season with a single under her belt.
For the first time since 2022, three different Warhawks captured 3 hits in
Meagan Brown,
Morgan Brown and
Kelsey Kovar.
Maryssa Zenzen logged her fifth multi-hit game of the season with two. Both Brown sisters recorded three RBI, Kovar and Zenzen tallying two.
Skylar Waggoner was credited with the win, pitching four innings and striking out six batters, allowing one earned run.
Maddie Nichols came in relief, pitching an inning and striking out two, refusing a hit from the Tigers.
The ULM softball team will hit the road this weekend for the final nonconference tournament of the season, competing in the Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Tournament, hosted by Central Arkansas. The Warhawks will first face the Bears on Friday (March 6) at 4 p.m.
