CONWAY, Ark. – The ULM softball team (15-10) split two games in the opening day of the Milisa Moore/Shane Lamb Memorial Tournament, hosted by Central Arkansas (15-8). After a slow start in the first game against the Bears, the Warhawks were able to get hot fast in the second game against Chattanooga (10-13-1).
Game 1: Central Arkansas 4, ULM 2
A lead-off single by
Brooklin Lippert in the first inning had the offensive momentum in the Warhawk favor, but three outs came and went. Two strikeouts from
Ashanti McDade got things moving in the bottom, leaving the game scoreless after the first.
A quick second inning for both squads brought on the third, ULM placing three on base but stranding them. Central Arkansas, on the other hand, got two runners on base, a single scoring both for the lead. An RBI double added to the tally as the host team headed to the fourth ahead, 3-0. Another scoreless inning for the Warhawks had the Bears back up to bat, a single getting a runner on base, another hit scoring the fourth run of the game.
With the Warhawks down and fighting for runs, the team collected consistent hits but could not convert. The ULM defense was able to keep things going, however, stranding three Bears on base in the fifth as the contest headed for the sixth. A lead-off double by
Morgan Brown got one on base in the top of the inning,
Elle Carter hitting the single to score Brown. In the top of the seventh, another score came for the Warhawks, an RBI double from
Meagan Brown. But the hitting got hot late, Central Arkansas coming away with the 4-2 win.
Brooklin Lippert had a three-hit game, the only multi-hit game of the contest for ULM. Both
Meagan Brown and
Morgan Brown posted doubles, back to batting back-to-back in the lineup.
Ashanti McDade (3.1 IP) was credited with the loss, striking out three but allowing five hits and one earned run.
Skylar Waggoner came to the circle in relief, striking out one batter and allowing a hit in 2.2 innings.
Game 2: ULM 7, Chattanooga 2
A three-up, three-down inning for both teams opened the game in the first, runs coming for the Warhawks in the second. With two outs,
Elle Carter hit a double to get on base,
Kelsey Kovar walking to also land. It was then that freshman
Carson Jansky came up to bat, hitting her first career home run and scoring three for the lead.
A sacrifice fly scored Chattanooga's first run in the bottom of the second, another coming from an RBI double in the third to keep it close, 3-2. A scoreless fourth brought on the fifth for both teams to try to switch up the offense, ULM succeeding. Back-to-back singles in the top of the fifth allowed for
Meagan Brown to single, advancing on an error that would score two more runs.
Olivia Faggard then claimed an RBI as Brown was plated for the sixth run. Holding the Mocs without a run in the fifth and sixth, the Warhawks put the nail in the coffin with an RBI single from Carter.
Elle Carter posted a multi-hit game with two,
Carson Jansky claiming three RBI for her first multi-RBI game.
Dakota Lake picked up the complete game win, striking out four batters in seven innings, allowing two earned runs and one walk.
