MONROE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team (3-8), was able to snag a victory in the 1-1 split on Saturday (March 14), to conclude the ULM Bayou Bash. While honoring their seniors, the Warhawks picked up three wins on various courts to defeat Tarleton State.
Match 1: Missouri State 5, ULM 0
The Warhawks dropped in a clean sweep to the Bears, who remain undefeated on the sand. The second pairing in
Madeline Marquez and
Avery Hunter dropped to the duo Steele/Cleary, 21-16, 21-16.
Paige Ingersoll and
Izabela Zukowska were next, dropping in a 21-13, 21-12 score to Missouri State.
Katie Felts and
Natalie Taggart also fell (21-19, 21-17), along with
Brooke Bankston and
Maddie Peterson (21-16, 21-17).
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson were the first duo, giving up a fight as they took the match to three sets. After dropping 24-22 in the first set, ULM responded with its own 24-22 score to force a third set. Unable to break a tie after 15, Cepicky/Larkin took it to a 19-17 score for the 5-0 win.
Match 2: ULM 3, Tarleton State 2
Ryno and Williamson continued that momentum and grit into the second contest, sweeping the Texans in straight sets (21-11, 21-19). Ingersoll and Zukowska dropped in a three-set match, coming from behind in the second set but ultimately falling in the third (21-10, 19-21, 15-6).
Calli Otjen and Felts also took it to three sets, falling in the final set (16-21, 21-19, 15-10). Hunter and
Samantha Rodriguez claimed a win in a three-set thriller reverse sweep, 15-21, 21-15, 15-12. Bankston/Peterson completed the win with a 21-17, 21-17 sweep of Tarleton State.
ULM will continue play on the road, traveling to Hattiesburg to face Southern Miss on March 20.
