HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM Warhawks (4-9) split the first day of Southern Miss' Spring Break Slam, falling to Southern Miss (5-14) and then defeating Spring Hill (6-3) on Friday (March 20).
Match 1: Southern Miss 5, ULM 0
Host Southern Miss claimed a 5-0 sweep over ULM in the first match for the Warhawks.
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson took it to three sets in flight one, but ultimately fell in the third, 23-21, 19-21, 10-15.
Paige Ingersoll and
Izabela Zukowska extended both sets in flight two, but dropped in straight sets (20-22, 22-24).
Avery Hunter and
Samantha Rodriguez also fell in straight sets (15-21, 15-21),
Maddie Peterson and
Brooke Bankston doing the same thing (12-21, 15-21). Flight five in
Katie Felts and
Calli Otjen also dropped, 14-21, 14-21 as the Golden Eagles snagged the win.
Match 2: ULM 3, Spring Hill 2
The duo of Otjen/Felts were the first to claim victory in the contest with a three-set score, orchestrating the reverse sweep (18-21, 22-20, 15-9). Flight four followed as Bankston/Peterson fought to drive the match to three sets, but dropped in the final (27-25, 19-21, 9-15). Rodriguez/Hunter were able to sweep Spring Hill with a 21-16, 21-17 score, Ryno/Williamson doing the same in flight one, 22-20, 21-19. Spring Hill claimed another victory on court two, as Ingersoll/Zukowska dropped in a 17-21, 20-22 contest.
ULM will be back in action tomorrow in the Spring Break Slam, first facing Spring Hill at 9 a.m. and Southern Miss at 11:15 a.m.
