HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM Warhawks (5-10) went on a 1-1 split in the second day of the Southern Miss Spring Break Slam, defeating Spring Hill (6-7) and keeping it close against host Southern Miss (7-14).Â
Match 1: ULM 3, Spring Hill 2
In a similar fashion as the first day of the tournament, the Warhawks were able to hold onto the lead against the Badgers.
Abby Ryno and
Claire Williamson swept on the first court, with a 21-12, 21-11 score.
Paige Ingersoll and
Izabela Zukowska forced a third set, converting to a win after an extended final set (21-19, 17-21, 22-20). Spring Hill claimed a three-set victory over
Samantha Rodriguez and
Avery Hunter (21-18, 21-23, 15-12), doing the same with
Brooke Bankston and
Maddie Peterson (7-21, 22-20, 16-14).
Calli Otjen and
Katie Felts claimed the point on court five, sending it to three sets with a 21-15, 8-21, 15-12 score.
Match 2: Southern Miss 4, ULM 1
The Warhawks held on with the Golden Eagles, but ultimately fell in a 4-1 contest to the host team. Ryno/Wiliamson played in extended sets, as Southern Miss claimed the win (23-21, 28-26). Ingersoll/Zukowska then fell in a sweep on court two (21-9, 21-16), as did Rodriguez/Hunter (24-22, 21-14). Bankston/Peterson forced a third set and converted to a win in the fourth flight, 21-16, 17-21, 15-6. Otjen/Felts also fell in straight sets, 21-18, 21-10.
ULM Beach Volleyball will be back in action in Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the Sun Belt Mid-Year Tournament. The team will begin play on March 27.
