McDade Pitches Complete-Game Shutout in 7-0 Victory at Georgia State

Carys Platt, Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

ATLANTA – In a 7-0 shutout, the largest margin of victory in Sun Belt play this season, ULM (30-18, 12-4 Sun Belt) snagged the victory over Georgia State (24-23, 4-12 Sun Belt) in the first game of the series. The Warhawks picked up 11 hits, scoring seven with no errors, crossing 10+ hits for the 12th time this season. Ashanti McDade and the ULM defense held the home team to just two hits, six errors becoming the name of the game as two of the runs were unearned.

A lead-off strikeout from Briana Bower had the Panthers in good position, but a single from Meagan Brown allowed for Morgan Brown's double to score the first run of the game. A 1-2-3 inning in the bottom frame gave the Warhawks another chance to add on. Three consecutive errors by the infield loaded the bases for ULM with no outs, but the defense escaped the jam unscathed.

While a lead-off single had Georgia State in position to tie the game, the Warhawks turned their 18th double play of the season. Both teams were held scoreless in the third, as the 1-0 lead continued for ULM into the fourth. A single from GSU and the runner advancing to scoring position provided hope to the home team, but a strikeout from McDade kept the runner at third.

Carys Platt hit a single to lead off the fifth, stealing second as Brooklin Lippert walked with no outs. Meagan Brown snagged her second hit of the game with an RBI single, Morgan Brown following with a double to score two more for the 4-0 advantage. In light of a pitching change, two strikeouts kept the Warhawks with a four-run edge. A three-up, three-down fifth for GSU kept the score heading into the sixth.

Two more hits came in the top frame for ULM, but three outs prevented an additional score. McDade struck out two more in the bottom of the sixth, sending the scoreless Panthers to the seventh. Morgan Brown led off with a single, Hollie Thomas reaching on an error and Kailey Monsef loading the bases with a hit of her own. Maryssa Zenzen logged an RBI with a sacrifice fly for the fifth run. With the bases loaded again from a walk, Carys Platt recorded a double to drive in two more runs for the 7-0 score. The Warhawks kept the Panthers 1-2-3 in the closing frame, McDade striking out her seventh batter for the win.

Meagan Brown (3-for-4), Morgan Brown (3-for-4) and Carys Platt (3-for-4) all collected three-hit games, Morgan with three RBIs and Platt with two. Morgan also ties her career high with another two-double game, last coming on March 22 against South Alabama. Olivia Faggard held steady with 10 putouts at first base. Ashanti McDade recorded her second complete-game shutout of the season, allowing two hits, no runs and no walks. McDade also broke her career high with seven strikeouts on the day.

The Warhawks improve to 12-4 in conference play, capturing their 30th win as well. ULM has now recorded 30-win games for the third-straight season. The win also brings the 12th consecutive win over Georgia State, dating back to 2022.

Also improving to 4-3 when playing Sun Belt schools on the road, the Warhawks will face Georgia State again on Saturday (April 18) at 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET.
