ATLANTA – An early home run set up the ULM Warhawks (31-18, 13-4 Sun Belt) for a fifth-straight Sun Belt series, claiming the win over Georgia State (24-24, 4-13 Sun Belt) in Atlanta.
Meagan Brown was the player of the week, going a perfect three-for-three at the plate with two doubles and a home run.
Meagan claimed her first double in the first inning, three outs keeping her at bay and preventing the early score.
Skylar Waggoner struck out her first batter in the bottom frame, holding the Panthers through another scoreless inning. A lead-off hit-by-pitch in the second inning was followed by a single, the Warhawk bats getting comfortable. But after a runner was caught stealing home and a strikeout, one runner was left on base. Back-to-back strikeouts from Waggoner prevented the home team from striking first, even as a runner landed on base.
Two quick outs came in the top of the third, but a walk put a runner on,
Meagan Brown approaching the plate. She hit her first home run of the season to score the first two runs of the contest. She broke a home run drought, last hitting one on March 16, 2025, against Georgia State. With the two-run advantage, a strikeout and a runner caught stealing kept the Warhawks ahead through three.
ULM went 1-2-3 in the fourth, an opening strikeout from Waggoner keeping the Warhawk defense hot. While two runners landed on base, they were left as another strikeout and a ground-out shut things down. The Warhawks went three-up, three-down in the fifth, the Panthers looking for a comeback on their home turf. With two outs, a double gave way to an RBI single and an RBI double to tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth.
With the game knotted up, Meagan led off with a second double on the day, advancing to third on a wild pitch. A fielder's choice landed a second Warhawk on, as
Maryssa Zenzen's ground-out scored the winning runs from Brown and
Hollie Thomas. The pendulum swung back in ULM's favor as the defense kept Georgia State clean through six.
While a hit was logged by
Carson Jansky in the seventh, three outs closed things. It was up to ULM's defense and
Ashanti McDade to end the game for the series victory. Two outs were found quickly, but a double and a single landed runners in scoring position, the winning run at the plate. But McDade struck out her final batter as ULM picked up its seventh-straight victory.
Meagan Brown went three-for-three, with two RBIs, two doubles, two runs scored and a home run. Two more doubles worked in ULM's favor from
Morgan Brown and
Olivia Faggard. Faggard led the defense with 11 putouts at first base.
Ashanti McDade snagged her 15
th win of the season, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing no runs and no walks.
Skylar Waggoner saw 4.1 innings in the circle, with a stellar seven strikeouts and no walks on the day.
With their fifth consecutive Sun Belt series victory, the Warhawks improve to 13-4. ULM last won five-straight conference series in 1997. The Warhawks also extend their win streak to seven, the longest this season.
Also improving to 5-3 when playing Sun Belt schools on the road, the Warhawks will conclude the series against Georgia State on Sunday (April 19) at 11 a.m. CT / Noon ET.
