ULM Walks Off Red Wolves to Even Series

Micah Dean homered in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Warhawks.

MONROE, La. – Two total hits were all ULM baseball (21-18, 9-8 Sun Belt) needed in a 3-2 win over Arkansas State (23-15, 8-9 Sun Belt) to even the series Saturday afternoon.

Bryce Blaser and Micah Dean both homered in the game, with Dean producing the walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth to seal it for the Warhawks.

Holden Hess earned his second win of the season with three innings pitched, allowing just a single run. Brandt Corley pitched through six frames with six strikeouts and a run allowed.

The Red Wolves stranded two runners on base early at the top of the first inning as a strikeout by Corley ended the threat. After Dean walked with one out in the bottom half, Blaser drilled a homer 381 feet into right field to give ULM a 2-0 lead after one.

The away team again put two runners on, but a double play got the final two outs of the top of the second and kept ASU scoreless. Kade Dupont led off the bottom frame with a walk but was caught stealing second base after a review overturned the original safe call. Both teams produced walks in the third inning, but nothing more as the game remained at a 2-0 score.

The Warhawks had a chance to extend the lead at the bottom of the fourth as three free passes resulted in a bases-loaded situation. A swinging strikeout eliminated the opportunity and kept the margin at a pair of runs. Arkansas State got on the board at the top of the fifth inning. A hit by pitch and a single put two runners on before a sacrifice bunt moved them over. A wild pitch allowed the runner from third base to score, making the score 2-1 in favor of the home team.

The two teams had chances with runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, but no one was able to cross home plate as the score remained the same heading into the eighth. Four free passes for the Red Wolves tied the game in the top frame, but a flyout limited the damage as the away team left the bases loaded.

AUS threatened again with a pair of singles to start the ninth inning, as a bunt resulted in the two runners in scoring position. A strikeout and a flyout ended the inning and kept the game tied.

Two quick outs resulted in a two-out at bat with Dean coming up to the plate. On the very first pitch, he belted a ball over the left field wall and produced the walk-off win, evening the series at one game apiece.

It's the third walk-off win for the Warhawks in 2026, with all three happening in Sun Belt play. Dean's blast is the first walk-off home run in the ninth inning since Apr. 1, 2023, vs. Marshall.

ULM will attempt to win the series tomorrow afternoon, with the rubber match scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lou St. Amant Field.
