MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks (2-1-1) picked up another win at home to bring on a winning record this season, extended their home unbeaten streak to 12 matches. ULM scored five goals to Jackson State (0-4)'s one, as goalkeeper
Jen Handy saw another full match in goal.
ULM opened things up as
Angela Moreno logged early shots to put the pressure on the Tigers. As the Warhawks fought to have the ball reach the net for a score, Jackson State's defense kept them at bay early on.
Even with the Warhawks leading in shots, it was the Tigers who struck first. Ryanne Hawthorn-Harper found the back of the net in the 27
th minute for the early lead, as ULM worked for the equalizer. Multiple shots continued to fire for the Warhawks, but the team could not find the tying score before the halfway mark, Jackson State ahead 1-0.
As the second half began, so did an offensive fire for the home team. After a corner kick was called in the 48
th minute,
Beth Strutton knocked back the ball with her head, scoring her first goal of the season and logging the tie ball. It was Strutton's sixth career goal, assisted by
Ines de Lope Casanova, who recorded her first assist of the season and seventh of her career.
While the Warhawk fire continued to pick up, as did the Tigers was three consecutive shots kept them in the ball game. But it was
Angela Moreno who broke free to pass the ball to Jade Bowé in the 65
th minute that gave ULM the lead. The goal was Bowé's first of her career, while Moreno logged her first career assist. Just over a minute later,
Charli Harris drove the ball downfield to get it to Bowé yet again, as she scored her second career goal to claim the brace. Harris also recorded her first career assist as the Warhawks led, 3-1.
Yellow cards began to take effect for the Tigers, as Jackson State collected multiple in ULM's scoring spree. After the second yellow card of the half,
Amy Sharkey recorded her second goal of the season and her career, assisted by
Maria Thania Gealon, who collected her first career assist. A third yellow card made an impact as a corner kick kept possession in the Warhawk favor. In the 83
rd minute, a penalty kick was issued for ULM, as Sharkey took the opportunity for her third career goal and first brace. The final minutes expired as two second-years recorded braces to drive ULM to the 5-1 win.
Angela Moreno recorded four shots to lead the team, as Bowé's three shots on target led the home team. Four other Warhawks logged multiple shots in the contest as well. Keeper Handy tied her season high with six saves under her belt in the 90-minute contest.
The two braces by two different players is the first time ULM has had two players with multi-goal games since the season opener in 2024, when Sara Navarro and Mara Grutkamp both recorded multi-goal games in the 9-0 victory. ULM's five second-half goals are also the second-most recorded in program history, the first being six goals in 2005.
The Warhawks will hit the road for the week, first traveling down the road to Grambling State on Thursday (Aug. 27). Kickoff at Grambling is slated for 5:30 p.m.
