OXFORD, Miss. – The ULM soccer team (2-2-1) remains on the road against SEC opponent Ole Miss (4-1), taking on the Rebels at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 30). The Warhawks remain on the hunt for a road win.

SCOUTING THE REBELS – 

Ole Miss enters the weekend with a 4-1 record in 2026, defeating teams such as the Ragin' Cajuns and UAB, while falling to No. 24 Memphis. The Rebels look to bounce back from the 3-1 loss on Thursday. Two Rebels lead the offense with three points apiece in Sarah Granno and Teaghan Irvin. Irvin logged the lone goal scored against the Tigers on Thursday. Also notable is midfielder Isabella Pontieri, who has recorded one goal so far this season, but was also recognized on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watchlist. Ole Miss, under first-year head coach Todd Shulenberger, are pegged to finish 15th in the SEC. 

FIRST MEETING – 

This is the first meeting between the Rebels and the Warhawks, ULM now adding a seventh SEC member to its series history. This is the lone opponent the Warhawks will face for the first time in program history this season. 

LAST TIME OUT –

The ULM Warhawks fell in a 2-0 contest at the Ruston Sports Complex to Grambling State on Thursday evening. The Tigers' Nyla Dore-Anderson scored both goals to keep the Warhawks at bay.

Early shots came in favor of the Tigers, even as ULM fought to score as well. Multiple corner kicks gave the Warhawks opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. In the 20th minute, Dore-Anderson found the net after two prior shots made, giving Grambling the 1-0 lead. While the Warhawks continued to log shots and get past goalkeeper Alina Arneth, the score remained unmoved at the halfway point, 1-0.

Early shots continued to come as the second half began for ULM, but the shots were not converting into scores. First year Charli Harris recorded multiple shots in the fight for the equalizer. But it was Dore-Anderson that found the back of the net against in the 81st minute, extending the lead for the 2-0 score.

The Warhawks led with nine shots to Grambling's eight, while the Tigers recorded six shots on target to ULM's four. Both teams tied with four saves apiece, as the Warhawks claimed seven corner kicks to lead.

FIRST-YEAR FIRE –

Victoria Vinals opened the season with a goal in the 80th minute at Little Rock. Vinals is the first first-year player to open the season's scoring since 2018. Charli Harris then followed with a brace against Alcorn, making her the first first-year since 2022 to record a multi-goal game, the lone first-year in the Sun Belt with multiple goals in the opening week of competition. Harris followed the week with her first career assist against Jackson State.

#1 IN GOAL –

Jen Handy returns for a third season in goal for the Warhawks after earning the starting role in her first. Named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2025, Handy currently holds multiple ULM records, including shutouts in a season (7, 2024). In her career, her 1.31 goals-against average ranks second all-time, as well as her wins (21) and shutouts (12). Five more shutouts in her career would hand her the single-season and all-time record.

O CAPTAINS OUR CAPTAINS –

ULM Soccer has named two team captains this season: defender Beth Strutton and midfielder Lucia Gomez. Strutton enters her second season as a captain, also earning the role in 2025. Strutton was an all-conference selection last season, holding down the Warhawk defense and recording three goals and two assists. Gomez earns the title in her second season with the Warhawks.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The Warhawks will return to Brown Stadium for the first home night match for ULM. The team will host Stephen F. Austin on Thursday (Sept. 3) at 7 p.m.
