OXFORD, Miss. – The ULM Warhawks (2-3-1) dropped a road contest at SEC opponent Ole Miss (5-1) in Oxford on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 30). The Rebels posted 22 shots to ULM's eight through 90 minutes of play.
Ole Miss controlled possession in the early minutes of the contest, indicative of the match offensively. A few corner kicks and shots for the Rebels had them knocking on the door, but
Jen Handy and the Warhawk defense kept them at bay. While ULM recorded some shots, Ole Miss continued to drive the offense, a free kick allowing for Becca Skinner to score the first goal of the contest in the 19
th minute.
With the one-goal edge, the Rebels continued to press to extend the lead. Ole Miss tried to find another goal, but Handy remained firm in goal. After several shots on target and attempts at another goal, it was Teaghan Irvin who found the back of the net in the 42
nd minute to give Ole Miss the 2-0 edge heading into the half.
Back-to-back saves by Handy opened the second half, as the Warhawks looked for a scoring opportunity. As shots continued to fly to Handy, the keeper prevented a score in the final 45 minutes of the contest. Fouls by the visitors and corner kicks also gave free kick opportunities to the Rebels as well.

Luena Ferreira picked one up and Keira Mitchell returned the favor for Ole Miss. In the final 10 minutes, the Warhawks picked up four corner kicks and a handful of shots to try for a score. But the chances were thwarted by the Rebels as they snagged the 2-0 victory.
Angela Moreno led the team with three shots, while first year
Taylor O'Rear snagged two in her first career start. Handy spent all 90 minutes in goal and tied her career high with eight saves, while allowing two goals.
ULM will return home to Brown Stadium on September 3, hosting Stephen F. Austin. The Warhawks will kick off on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
