JONESBORO, Ark. - The ULM volleyball team (5-10, 0-2) fell 0-3 to Arkansas State (6-7, 2-0) on Friday evening to wrap up the first series of Sun Belt conference play.
Setter Bre Perrin led the Warhawks, recording a double-double with 15 assists and matching her career-high of 11 digs. Aniya Hall made 12 kills for her ninth match of the season in double figures.
The Red Wolves jumped out to an early lead, but the Warhawks battled back with four unanswered points. Two kills by Hall and Tatum Clay's 18th ace of the season kept ULM in the set. Arkansas State rebuilt its lead to 20-15, but the Warhawks refused to go away, trailing by just one after Clay's solo block. The Red Wolves took a 1-0 advantage after forcing an error and sealing the set on a kill.
The second set saw four ties and lead changes as each team battled to establish themselves in the match. An early 6-0 run on Bre Perrin's serve gave the Warhawks some footing in the set. Aniya Hall's ace gave ULM a 9-8 lead, but five unanswered points by the Red Wolves gave them the advantage heading into the break. The Warhawks came back within two points, forcing a pair of errors, but Arkansas State went on a 5-1 spree that was too large to erase, taking the set 25-21.
Arkansas State carried its momentum into the third and final set, running away with the score after recording eight blocks in that set alone. The Red Wolves rode a seven-point streak, allowing them to take the set 25-13, and the match 3-0.
