KICKOFF –

The ULM soccer team (3-3-1) remains at home to host UAB (1-4-1), taking on the Blazers at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 6). The Warhawks look to defeat the Blazers for the first time in program history.

SCOUTING THE BLAZERS – 

UAB posts a 1-4-1 record in 2026 so far, defeating fellow Sun Belt opponent Georgia State, 4-2. The Blazers have also faced Mississippi State, Ole Miss, UCF and Auburn in a tough nonconference slate.  The team most recently fell in a 1-0 score to Auburn. Avery Berryman leads the team with five points (2g, 1a) under her belt, most recently scoring against Mississippi State. Berryman was one of UAB's top scorers in 2025, the top three all returning this season.

SERIES HISTORY VS. UAB – 

This is the second-ever meeting between the Blazers and the Warhawks, the first coming in Birmingham last season. UAB defeated ULM in a 5-0 score in Birmingham, the Blazers having never made the trip to Brown Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT –

The ULM Warhawks kept the home unbeaten streak alive as the team defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, 2-0. The Warhawks defeat the Lumberjacks for the first time at home since 2001, the first time since 2004.

Amy Sharkey was able to push the offense early, earning a shot on target in the second minute to get things started. After a hydration break maintaining the scoreless tally, Bernadett Stefan passed the ball to Jenni Huttunen in the 18th minute, who launched the ball to the back of the net for the opening score of the match. 

In the 31st minute, just three minutes later, Ines de Lope Casanova scored her second career goal and first in 2026 to make it a quick 2-0 score, assisted by Charli Harris. The Warhawks continued to drive possession, leading 10 shots to SFA's one after the first half.

An early shot on target by Luena Ferreira kept the Warhawks in power as the second half began, even as an open goal allowed for a missed shot from SFA. ULM's defense continued to keep the Lumberjacks at bay as time ran on, preventing a shot on target through 80 minutes of play. In the 85th minute, a foul against ULM allowed for a penalty kick attempt from the Lumberjacks. But the shot went high and the Warhawks kept the slate clean for the first time all season in the 2-0 victory. 

FIRST-YEAR FIRE –

Victoria Vinals opened the season with a goal in the 80th minute at Little Rock. Vinals is the first first-year player to open the season's scoring since 2018. Charli Harris then followed with a brace against Alcorn, making her the first first-year since 2022 to record a multi-goal game, the lone first-year in the Sun Belt with multiple goals in the opening week of competition. Harris followed the week with her first career assist against Jackson State, collected her second vs. SFA.

#1 IN GOAL –

Jen Handy returns for a third season in goal for the Warhawks after earning the starting role in her first. Named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2025, Handy currently holds multiple ULM records, including shutouts in a season (7, 2024). In her career, her 1.30 goals-against average ranks second all-time, as well as her wins (22) and shutouts (13). Four more shutouts in her career would hand her the single-season and all-time record.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR –

ULM is one of few teams in which a majority of their team is from outside of the United States. The Warhawks have 17 players from nine different countries, excluding the U.S. The leading countries are England and Spain with five players apiece. Other noted countries include: France, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Portgual, Scotland and The Faroe Islands. Midfielder Bernadett Stefan takes the cake being the farthest from home, as Monroe is 5,456 miles from Budapest, Hungary. On the other side of things, freshman Rylee Methvin is soccer team's lone Louisiana resident, as she is from Thibodaux, just 254 miles from ULM's campus.

LOOKING AHEAD –

The Warhawks will hit the road for a Thursday night matchup at Rice on September 10. ULM will kick off against the Owls at 6 p.m.
