MONROE, La.-Nick
Delguidice
hit two home runs to lead Florida Atlantic to an 8-7 come-from-behind
victory
over ULM in game one of a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday at
Warhawk
Field. The Owls rallied from a 6-3 deficit to claim the victory in the
series
opener.
The Warhawks took
their
three-run lead after plating five runs on four hits in the bottom of the
fourth
inning. Judd Edwards scored the first run of the inning on a fielding
error by
the Owls after leading off the frame with an infield single. Josh Gill
drove
home Kelvin York with a single to right field and Jarrett Hammond scored
on a
grounder by Perry Smith. After a Shane Ardoin single, Caleb Clowers had
an RBI
infield single and Boomer Blanchard plated the final run with a grounder
to
short.
Nick Wade, Clowers,
Blanchard,
Edwards and Ardoin all had two hits for the Warhawks as the finished
with 12
hits in the game. ULM (14-23, 4-12 Sun Belt) has now posted 10 or more
hits in
six straight games.
Florida Atlantic
(24-14, 13-6)
also finished with 12 hits led by two-hit days from Raymond Church, Mike
Albaledejo, Andy Mee and Delguidice.
The Owls tied the
game with
three runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Albaladejo led off the
inning
with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout
for the
second out of the inning, Delguidice took the first pitch he saw from
Drew
Granier out to left field for a two-run homer.
Anthony Mesa gave
Florida
Atlantic a brief one-run lead, 7-6, with a home run to lead off the
sixth
inning off ULM relief pitcher Josh Miller. Edwards tied the game in the
seventh
with a grounder to short which allowed Blanchard to score after he
reached on
an error.
Church
plated the winning-run for the Owls with a double to right-center after
Nathan
Pittman led off the eighth with a single between short and third.
The Warhawks got
the tying run
on third base with just one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as
Wade
hammered a triple off the wall in left field. Mee struck out the next
two Warhawk
batters to end the game and pick up his ninth save of the season.
Delguidice opened
the scoring
with his first home run of the day with one out in the second inning.
The
Warhawks tied the game in the third when Ardoin scored on the first of
three
errors on the day by the Owls.
Ryan Bernal
(4-0) picked up the win for the Owls with 1 2/3 scoreless innings out of
the
bullpen. Hewalked one and struck out one.
Miller
(1-4) took the loss for the Warhawks after allowing a pair of runs on
five hits
in three innings of work. He walked one and struck out one in relief of
Granier,
who allowed six runs on seven hits over five innings.
First pitch
of game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 5:25 p.m.
