MONROE, La. - ULL
used a
four-run fifth inning to break a 3-all tie and complete a doubleheader
sweep of
homestanding ULM on Friday at Warhawk Field. The Ragin' Cajuns won game
two 10-4
after winning 6-5 in 13 innings in the opener.
Every Cajun starter
had a hit
in the game as ULL finished with 15 for the game. Alex Fuselier led the
way
with three while Jordan Poirrier, Chad Keefer, Greg Fontenot and Kyle
Bostick
each had two. Taylor Abdalla drove in three of ULM's runs with his first
homer
of the season and Judd Edwards finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Fuselier hit a
one-out double
to score Poirrier and give ULL a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Tyler Frederick
also
scored on the play following a throwing error by the Warhawks. Justin
Robichaux
put the Cajuns up 6-3 with a single to right-center field and Bostick
doubled
home Robichaux two batters latter.
ULL (36-18, 20-9
Sun Belt),
who moved into a tie for first place in the Sun Belt standings on
Friday,
jumped out to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single by Poirrier and a sacrifice
fly by Keefer
in the first inning.
Abdalla, who sent
game one
into the 13th inning with a two-out RBI single in the 12th
inning, hammered his home run in the bottom of the second to give ULM
(17-37,
7-22) a 3-2 lead. His three-run shot scored Jarrett Hammond and Casey
Auttonberry after a bunt single and a walk.
Keefer hit his
second home run
of the doubleheader to tie the game with one out in the top of the third
inning. He homered again in the sixth inning, this time with two runners
on, to
put ULL up 9-3. Fontenot led off the seventh with a single and later
scored on
a grounder by Poirrier for the Cajuns' final run of the game.
Caleb Clowers hit a
two-out
double in the bottom of the ninth and then handed the base over to pinch
runner
Luke Briley. Edwards followed with a single back up the middle to score
Briley
for ULM's fourth run of the game.
T.J. Geith (6-1)
allowed just
three runs on five hits over 7.1 innings to pick up the win for the
Cajuns. He
struck out seven and walked two.
James Jones (3-8)
allowed nine
runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings of work in the losing effort for the
Warhawks. Derek
Ward pitched a scored ninth inning to move into sole possession of
eighth place
on the career relief appearances list with 44.
The teams will wrap
up the
series Saturday at 6 p.m. ULM's 2010 Spring Commencement is at 2 p.m. on
Saturday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum and seven Warhawks will take part in the
ceremony. ULM will honors its departing seniors in a ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
