MONROE, La. – Undefeated weekends extended long win streaks for the ULM men's basketball and softball programs and earned Tylor Ongwae and Rochelle Roberts Warhawk Male and Female of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Ongwae, from Eldoret, Kenya, helped the first-place Warhawks extend their winning-streak to six games in a row over the weekend. He played 40 minutes in both games, averaging 17.5 points, seven rebounds and 4.5 assists per outing. He shot .500 (14-28) on the week.
The senior, who was also named Co-LSWA Player of the Week for the second straight week, got it started with a 21-point, seven rebound performance against rival UL-Lafayette to help solidify a 67-55 victory. He followed it up with another team-high of 14 points to go along with his seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals to guide ULM to a 69-58 win over Appalachian State. It was his fifth double-figure scoring game in a row.
On the year, Ongwae leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with 14.3 and 7.0, respectively.
It marked the second Warhawk of the Week award in a row for Ongwae and ninth of his career, the most by an individual in the award's history.
Roberts had an outstanding weekend during the Warhawks sweep of the Mardi Gras Classic and earn the program's best start since the 2006 season.
The sophomore knocked seven base hits with two extra base hits with a triple and walkoff homerun versus Grambling State to secure ULM's eighth-straight win.
The Vacaville, Calif., native scored seven runs while picking up four RBI on the weekend. Roberts would swipe six bases throughout the tournament. Roberts is now the team leader for all three categories.
Roberts and the Warhawks will look to win their ninth-consecutive game when they travel to Northwestern State on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and then head to Central Arkansas on Friday, Feb. 20 to compete in a tournament hosted by the Sugar Bears.
It marked the second career Warhawk of the Week award for Roberts as she previously won on April 22, 2014.
