MONROE, La. – Big showings at the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships earned Andrew Tate and Adriunna Brown from the ULM Track & Field program Warhawk of the Week honors, announced Wednesday.
Tate, a junior from Schertz, Texas, got it started on the first day of the meet with a season-best time of 48.60 in the 400m preliminaries. The score earned him a trip to the finals. In the finals on Tuesday, Tate set another season-best with the second fastest time in school history at 47.85.
Tate's 400m time earned him a bronze medal. It was his first of two trips to the podium as he followed it up by running the final leg of the men's 4x400m relay which also took third-place. Running alongside juniors Nigel Cribbs, Mark Demus and senior Jamel Sams, the team posted a season-best of 3:17.44 to close out the meet.
Brown, from Macon, Ga., also shined in a pair of events for the Warhawks. She took third-place in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.72. It accounted for half of the team's points at the SBC Championships.
The sophomore followed it up with a personal-record in the triple jump. She leaped for a mark of 11.47m, breaking her previous best of 11.16m set earlier this season.
Tate, Brown and the Warhawks will now turn their attention to the outdoor season which begins Saturday, March 14 in Lake Charles, La., at the McNeese Cowboy Relays.
