MONROE, La. – Impressive performances last week earned Nick Coppola from the men's basketball program Warhawk Male of the Week, and the sand volleyball duo of Marcela Araya and Michelle McNamee Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Coppola, from Richmond, Va., led the Warhawks in scoring with 24 points (12.0 ppg) at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. He shot an astounding .600 from the three-point line after draining six three-pointers in two games.
The sophomore got it started with 12 points against South Alabama in the quarterfinals in a 77-59 win. He poured in four three-pointers in the first half and led the Warhawks to their first-ever SBC Semifinals.
Against Georgia Southern, Coppola tied a team-high with 12 points and played 40 minutes for the 14th time this season and the 23rd time in two years. It was his 16th double-figure scoring game of the season.
Coppola and the Warhawks will make their first-ever CBI appearance on Wednesday when they host Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Top pair Araya and McNamee needed only six sets to pick up three wins in dual play and remain a perfect in 5-0 in dual play on the season.
The senior duo propelled the Warhawks to a home triumph over UAB and back-to-back road wins over No. 17 Tulane and Spring College.
Sitting at 4-1 on the season, ULM will play a doubleheader Wednesday on the road against the University of New Orleans and No. 17 North Florida.
It marked the eighth career Warhawk of the Week award for Araya which also includes indoor volleyball.
