Bears Emerge with Five-Inning Win

CONWAY, Ark. – Meeting for the third time in the last six days, the Missouri State softball team posted an 11-2 victory in five innings over ULM on Thursday (Feb. 28) afternoon.

The Bears (10-7), who had three multi-run innings in the contest, collected 10 hits as a team. Only one Missouri State hitter, Kyana Mason (2-2, run), had multiple hits. However, two Bears finished with multiple RBIs, including Hope Hamilton (1-4, 3 RBI, double) and Daphne Plummer (1-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs).

ULM (1-16) closed out the game with four team hits, getting a pair from Jessie Watts who finished 2-for-2 with a run scored. Brie Wrobel (1-2) was responsible for both Warhawk RBIs in the game.

Missouri State capitalized on a double down the left-field line by Steffany Dickerson in the top of the first, establishing a 1-0 lead. Rachel Weber followed with a single to short that brought home Abi LaValley for the second run of the game.

After a scoreless first inning by ULM, the Bears exploded for seven runs on four hits in the second. With the bases loaded Plummer delivered a single up the middle to extend the lead to 4-0. Dickerson reached on an error, scoring Mason in the process.

Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Morgan Greenlee drew a walk to score Plummer from third. After a pitching change that brought Murphy Williams out of the ULM bullpen, Hamilton drove a two-out double into right field to make for a 9-0 Missouri State lead.

Missouri State tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth, the first coming when Hamilton reached base on a fielding error that allowed Erin Griesbauer to advance from third. The final run for the Bears on the day came via a single up the middle by Payton Minnis, whose single up the middle plated Greenlee.

Facing a double-digit deficit in the bottom of the fourth, ULM opened the inning with a walk by Sydney McKay and a single by Watts to put two runners on base. After a single back to the pitcher by Bailey Thibodeaux loaded the base pads, Wrobel dropped a single into right field that scored Watts and McKay.

Dickerson (5-3) earned the win for the Bears, allowing two runs on four hits in five complete innings. Three pitchers took the mound for ULM, including starter Blaire Wilson (0-2), who logged 1.2 innings, allowed nine runs (five earned), four walks and six hits.
