Bayou Bengal Invitational - Final Results

BATON ROUGE, La.
– Highlighted by a pair of first-place performances by Sharon Jerono and Brianna Sam, the ULM track and field team posted 34 Top-15 finishes at the Bayou Bengal Invitational, hosted by LSU that concluded on Friday, Feb. 1.

Jerono snagged her first Top-5 performance of the young season when she crossed the finish line of the one mile run in a time of 5:19.34. She edged out in-state foes Sara Funderburk (LSU) and Jennifer LaMori (Tulane), who joined her on the podium with times of 5:20.00 and 5:24.05, respectively.

Sam, who set a personal best with a toss of 60-feet, 2 ½-inches in the weight throw, posted the first event-winning performance of her collegiate career. Sam, who had a pair of fifth-place outings in the weight throw event a season ago, was over four feet better than Southeastern Louisiana's Alexia Stein, who placed second at 55-4 3/4.

ULM picked up a third-place finish from Sam Healy, who produced a mark of 23-11 in the men's long jump. Jasmine Scott-Kilgo duplicated that third-place finish in the women's long jump with a season-best distance of 18-5.

Jakob Fudge, one of two Warhawk's competing in the men's weight throw, grabbed third place with a heave of 55-2. He was joined in the Top 10 by Ray Dixon, who captured eighth place with a toss of 45-6 1/2.

Micaiah Dendy also reached the podium for the Warhawks after stretching herself for 39-1 1/4 in the triple jump. Dendy's performance placed her third, her best finish since taking second in the long jump at the Southern Miss Open last April.

The duo of Jasmine Williams and Kourtni Russell was responsible for a pair of Top-10 finishes in the women's 60-meter hurdles for the Warhawks. Williams crossed the line fourth with a personal-best time of 8.89, with Russell closely following in fifth at 8.90.

The men's shot put event also resulted in a pair of Top-10 efforts, with Micah Dye finishing fourth at 49-7 and Ray Dixon placing ninth at 46-0 1/2.

Colm Bourke narrowly missed the podium in the long jump, finishing fourth with a leap of 23-5 1/2.

Edith Jebet paced herself to a fifth-place performance in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase (11:11.80), notching her second Top-5 finish of the indoor season.

On the men's side, distance runner Brandon McDonald claimed fifth in the one mile run by posting a time of 4:34.41. Lebrun Nelson and Alivia Busch rounded out ULM's fifth-place finishers at the Bayou Bengal. In his first meet of the indoor season, Nelson recorded a distance of 48-2 3/4 in the triple jump while Busch produced a toss of 42-9 1/2 in the shot put.

Both the ULM men's and women's 4x400 relay teams emerged with third-place finishes in their respective races. On the women's side, the team of Brittney Roberson, Fiebe Tengrootenhuysen, Niaya Fant and Sydney Curry recorded a time of 4:02.56. The men's unit of Bryce Moore, Eran Siboni, Nolan Smith and Eric Hawkins posted a time of 3:21.12.

Next, the Warhawks will head to Birmingham, Alabama, to compete in the Samford Invitational on Friday, Feb. 8.
