Shaw, Hogan Lead Way in ULM’s 12-2 Win Over UAPB

CONWAY, ARK. Megan Shaw came through with a game-high five RBI, Ana Hogan finished with three and Jessie Watts contributed two as the ULM softball team snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 12-2 five-inning victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, March 2 in the Central Arkansas Tournament.

Shaw capped off the game by hitting 2-for-4 (5 RBI, double), while Hogan ended her day at 1-for-1 with three RBI, recording a triple. ULM also got a solid performance from Watts, who finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Sydney McKay (3-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs, triple) tied Watts for the most hits, while Brie Wrobel ended the day with two hits and an RBI.

ULM reliever Tori Fugatt (1-0) picked up the win after tossing three innings, surrendering four hits and two runs along the way, while striking out three batters.

The Warhawks put three runs on the board early in the game, after a triple to left by McKay was followed by a double to left-center field off the bat of Watts, resulting in the first run of the contest. With the bases loaded, following a single by Wrobel that put Mount at second and Watts on third, Shaw delivered a two-run single that plated Mount and Watts in succession for the 3-0 ULM lead.

ULM's offense returned to the plate in the second and tacked on four more runs in the process. McKay led off the frame with a single down the left-field line, scoring on a single to right-center field by Watts that resulted in a throwing error. Two walks over the next four batters kept the Warhawks offense at the plate, which allowed Shaw to deliver a bases-clearing double to right-center field that extended the lead to 7-0.

The offensive attack continued for ULM in the top of the third inning, where the Warhawks came through with five runs. The first came when Wrobel singled to left field, scoring McKay from third for the 8-0 lead. Hogan, pinch hitting for Adrianna Chavarria, came through with a triple to right-center field that scored the trio of Wrobel, Mount and Bailey Thibodeaux to provide ULM with an 11-0 advantage. Hogan came home with a grounder to short by Kennedy Page, scoring the final Warhawk run of the contest.

UAPB scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but ULM closed out the win in five after owning a 10-run advantage.
