Hammond, La. - Four Southeastern Louisiana pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Lions swept ULM in a two-game mid-week set, 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Warhawks picked up their lone hit in the top of the ninth inning on a Trent Tinglestad single to right. ULM scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning, when
Chad Bell and Tingelstad walked to lead off the inning, and
Logan Wurm followed with a sacrifice bunt. A throwing error on the play allowed Bell to score, cutting the SLU lead to 2-1 at that point.
Southeastern scored in five different innings, highlighted by a three-run fifth inning when Brennan Breaud hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Preston Faulkner, and Connor Manola hit a two-RBI single to right to bring home Nathan Pilutti and Kyle Schimpf for a 6-1 lead.
Trey Shaffer threw the first four innings for the win for Southeastern, giving up an unearned run on no hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Jared Biddy followed with three innings in relief with six strikeouts. Justin Simanek and Peyton Lee threw the final two innings for SLU.
Conner Deeds took the loss in his first start of the season, lasting 3.1 innings with three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Cameron Allison (0.2 innings pitched) and
Ty Barnes (1.0 innings pitched) were the only two pitchers for ULM to not allow a run.
