GRAMBLING, La. – A three-run third inning was instrumental in helping the ULM softball team snap a six-game losing streak by triumphing 5-2 over Grambling State on Tuesday, April 27.
ULM (14-26) took advantage of a walk and error in the third inning when
Jessica Williams hit an RBI single through the left side to score
Korie Kreps to double ULM's lead to 2-0.
Kennedy Johnson picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice when
Andie Edwards scored for the 3-0 advantage. The Warhawks capped off the three-run frame when Johnson scored on a wild pitch to push the margin to 4-0.
Anaiyah Fultz cut the lead in half with her 2-RBI single in the bottom of the third to bring Grambling (10-15) back within 4-2.
ULM responded in the top of the fourth when
Alysia Anderson stole third and scored on an error for the 5-2 lead.
Anderson had an RBI single back in the second inning to plate
Madelyn Fletcher.
Kennedy Page doubled among ULM's five hits.
Warhawk reliever
Amber Coons (2-2) picked up the win, pitching four shutout innings in relief, giving up no hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Kassidy Giddens fired the first three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
ULM continues its midweek stretch with a 6:30 p.m. clash Wednesday at McNeese State.
